Interesting that Beams ONLY wants to be traded to Brisbane. Would have though Gold Coast an option if he wants to be close to his Dad (or flexible travel arrangements on a Pie contract) but is obviously using a bit of emotional blackmail to get what he wants here.

Flexible travel options would hardly cut the mustard there

Yes and no. You can't blame a bloke for wanting to play with his brother at the highest level for his father to see.

You want it, you make it happen. Can't go for a club's second best player and put all your own good players off limits.

collingwood dont have any bargaining power though, other than to let him go to the gold coast instead. so its certain that you are going to get unders. pick 4 doesnt seem too far removed from a fair deal. maybe a mid tier player too

Don't have any bargaining power? Pretty sure they do.

Any news on who Hungry Tippo is going to sign with now that his 2 year deal with the Swans has expired?

And this is the problem clubs face with FA. There was a good article somewhere recently about the predicted trend of clubs off-loading players who are giving signs about moving one year before their FA kicks in. This so that say in Collingwood's position they can get pick 4 instead of whatever compensation they will get if Beams goes as a FA next year (a lot less than pick 4).

But it does mean they have to take the high draft pick that is on the table that one year earlier and not get too cute about the negotiation. The Crows stupidly in hindsight refused to trade Tippett to Brisbane one year early for reportedly a similar high draft pick.

If clubs and players who intend to move make deals along these lines then this is a good thing. Players get what they want, their club of choice gets what they want and the club they're leaving don't go home empty handed. Let's hope it becomes an "unwritten rule" among the free agents looking to move.

Collingwood now saying pick 4 isn't enough, which is their prerogative. Brisbane might have to give them back Jackson paine as well.

I think Buckley is a bit deluded about the Pies premiership chances next year isn't he? He says "if Beams could not be replaced with a like-for-like next year the club’s premiership hopes would be affected. We see it as an early pick, plus a player. If Beams goes out and doesn’t get replaced with a Beams-like player, clearly it does (affect our premiership hopes). It’s not in the planning."

Do the Pies really have serious Premiership chances next year? Isn't Bucks in a rebuilding phase having let Shaw and Thomas go and then Ball and Maxwell retiring. Swan is 32 next year I think. Time to get those early draft picks in I reckon.

If they draft well they'd have their Beams replacement they just have to a year or two develop him or shorter if they find the next Ollie Wines who went at pick 7 in the 2012 draft.

It's an emotional time when a star player wants out but the club the loses the star player will never feel they were adequately compensated. It's just the way it goes. It was up to Bucks to make him want to stay before it came to this.

All that said, is Beams allowed to say he will only be traded to Brisbane? I remember some serious penalties in the past for that kind of statement.

picks 2 and 3 for danger?
if crows had any doubts on him leaving they would have to take it for sure
but if they are sure he is going to stay, then still take it!

Where'd you hear that Johno?

Now way anyone gets picks 2 and 3 for any single player, even Dangerfield. I'd reckon that's a bad rumour surely.

Mentioned 2/3 for Dangerfield on Trade Radio Twitter feed.

And, I'm pretty certain Bucks knows where not a prem threat next year, but still needs to talk the situation up to get the best deal. Given the situation, it's a bit hard for Bucks to "make him want to stay before it came to this".

Lumumba picks Melbourne so time to nominate what he's worth.
Beams to Brisbane for pick 4 and a lower pick or fringe player - Cutler/Crisp maybe
Dangerfield to Melbourne for pick 3 (compo for Frawley) and Toumpas? Melbourne keep pick 2 for the draft and get Petracca/Brayshaw
Frawley to Geelong as a UFA
Mitch Clark to Collingwood for something suitable (3rd round pick all things considered)

Melbourne look alright next season with Danger and Lamumbler handy ins, a gun draft pick and Trengove coming back from the broken foot - just sayin'...
