One positive is John Butcher. Ten kicks at AFL level for 7.1.

Surely there is some truth to it. Cant see them throwing money in a bottomless pit forever, eventually if Port cant stand on their own feet enough will be enough.

Slag this post however you like, but here goes....

Today the result was irrelevant. Overall the dogs were a class above which is expected. But......

Today i saw something which i havent seen in a long time. Promise.

Butcher in his 2nd game was terrific. 6 goals and a few great conteted grabs, im liking this kid and with another pre-season into him (he looked flat in the last) and another 2-3 kg's to his frame, im seeing the making of a forward line which we can mould around this bloke.

Banner showed he can make an afl footballer out of himself. Rodan showed he can still offer some lessons to the younger midfielders and Trengrove took some great contested grabs in defence.

Today i saw heart. 60 pts is still a belting, BUT.....we fought, scratched and bled until the final siren which is a pleasing sign. Yes port adelaide is nowhere near anybody sitting from 1-12 but the players at least looked as though they wanted to be out there and try and improve. We tried new things in the last half, tried to take the game on and scored 11.4 to 9.4 as a result.

I was the proudest i could be after a 10 goal loss today because apart from the 1st qtr when i thought we were on the way to setting new records, the players gave me SOMETHING to hope for.

We need to search the draft high and wide for ANYTHING we can make a defender out of, and maybe......just maybe there is hope for us.

Agree with it all Valleys, as much as the Power has been horrible this year, there is certainly hope for the club in the next couple of years.

Now I know they don't grow on trees, and the GWS thing sort of stuffs the plan, but the problem with BOTH SA clubs is that they have a penchant for drafting guys (Boak, Thomas, Gray for the Power, Van Berlo, Vince, for the Crows), who's best footy is a mid-twentys possession game (with the odd exception), rather than an absolute game breaker. Carlile needs a chequebook thrown at him, and Butcher is the new Westhoff as far as I am concerned- the guy that the forward line needs to be built around.

Full forward Butcher, CHF Schulz, with Westhoff resting up forward from ruck/wing duties, and a few smalls like Ebert, and the forward line all of a sudden looks potent.

The last thing I can say about the Power is that Daniel Motlop MUST play, and he must play every game next year.
When he's off, he's absolutely terrible, but when he's on, he is an unparalleled match winner. The spark that a good club needs. When he fails, then the other forwards should be able to carry a load, but when he's on, they can take it easy...

They need a few strong bodied backmen, and a couple of game breaking midfielders...

Yeah some good points MP but Schulz's best and most valuable position is leading out of the goal square. Butcher with his pack marking may make a better CHF/ forward who plays up the ground a bit. As for Motlop absolutely agree. Tho i fear he will be a scapegoat for a poor year (esp considering he's uncontracted at the end of the year whilst others arent)... but in most games he's played this year and also today he provides run and breaks lines which is something sorely missing. We are struggling to get the ball into the F50 and he's one player that makes it happen.

It is clear the AFL will has and always will want two teams based in Adelaide.

If Port Adelaide were to fold what could the AFL possibly look at as an alternative in SA?

Another "Team for all South Australians?" - Couldn't work, wouldn't be tried.

Relocate a Vic based club? No chance.

A Fremantle like "merger" of two stronger clubs, lets say Centrals and Norwood, or a Norwood/Sturt consortium? No chance.

First of all, Port Adelaide has to make the turn around happen and become viable, the SANFL, as they have and are need to help as much as they can and the AFL, as it is and has, will continue to support Port.I might not be very confident of our on-field success over the next 3-5 years but I am confident there is light at the end of the tunnel for us.

Now, to Rucci and Dimetriou. One of them is lying, one of them isn't.

One of them is the boss of the AFL, the other is a liar. 8)

Carlisle doesnt need the cheque book thrown at him FFS. Over-rated and we need to trade him for some one decent

Interesting interview with Jesper Fjeldstad on 5AA just now. Both Rowey and Cornes digging into it for info. I'd have no idea about the reporter or the goings on at the moment but my gut feel is that there's a bit behind it. Added to that, Mr. Demitriou has the gift of answering questions/explaining issues in poli-talk. The whole Adelaide Oval/SACA issue is proof of how the man works. Personally, I'd never trust his word. This looks like it's going to get a lot worse. Best of luck to the PAFC.

Well done to John Butcher for the 2 games so far, when his name was mentioned to get a game through the year people at Power were saying he isnt ready yet.Holy shit if you dont take a chance when the year has been terrible for the club, sometimes take a gamble and at least has a decent chance to have a better look at new players who are playing SANFL.John has certainly stood up and shown the club that he can perform at AFL.Mitch Banner seems to have moved into the Power fine, sometimes even if players form is only average at SANFL they seem to cope with AFL pretty quickly so it doesnt hurt to play the others who are still waiting to make their debut.Phil Davis was at North i personally thought he was ok but speaking to a few North supporters they thought he struggled,as soon he played for the Crows he settled in well.

Mentioned on 5AA that he has has put off contract negotiations until the end of the season, whether he will actually be at Port next season may not be set in concrete as yet!
