Sam Newman said last night on the footy show "I'm not convinced they've improved from last year".

Fair comment that I reckon.

What bubble, i think the media got well ahead of themselves. They all tipped saints and dogs to be top 4 and when we hammered them early it gave them false hope. Now we have seen how crap both of them are it wasnt that special beating them. Said last week we would only win another 2 or 3 for year, might change that to 1 or 2 :D

I think all you Essendon supporters got way ahead of yourself including your coach.
You Jim05 & your mates crucified Matthew Knights coaching methods, well look at the current coach, negative from the start playing an extra man in defence & that players done nothing right up to half time, any good coach would of noticed that wasn't working before half time & made a change.
I've never seen a side make so many basic-fundamental-unforced errors by hand & foot & you've got a coaching panel earning double to 4 times as much any other team in the competition.
Looks like Hird can't handle the pressure. Well Jim05 do you believe in KARMA like i do?
Its coming right back at yah. =))

And I think you're a Matthew Knights apologist. Spent two years banging on in the SANFL forum about him getting the boot at Port, I presume you will now do the same here?

Like he is the only coach given the boot. Every club has sacked a coach at some stage, get over it. Judging Hird a little harsh i believe, yes he has struggled but he is less then a year in to his contract, ill save my judgement until he has had a season at least.

sadly the Bombers are struggling and no one really has the answers. I got a wake up call this arvo when I overheard a supporter at the footy match I was at saying to some blokes around him that Essendon were as bad as Port and the Crows. I gulped and just figured all three clubs were in deep s***t for a couple of years because none of them are going to score from the draft until 2013 at best

I don't think Essendon won a game against Port when he coached at the Bombers.

So yes, bring him back, we may notch up another win

Knights had 3 years, Hird is only in game 14 so for me Jury is still out.
Think all coaches should be given 2-3 years to prove their worth. If Hirdy hasnt improved the team ill be after answers aswell.

The Hirdmeister will be treated more humanely than Knights.

Yes he is the Golden boy, just like Buckley is at Collingwood. Hope he cops as much stick as Hird is if he fails to deliver

Think you'll find that many Collingwood supporters would prefer to see Malthouse remain as head coach. I am one of them.

Well that sucked. I watched this mob play against Hawthorn last week and I reckon the Redlegs might have beaten them on that form. Then it's our turn to play em and what happens? Ryder on fire, Monfries kicking goals from the third row a la Daniel Motlop...frigging Welsh kicking two goals.

We were well and truly ambushed by the Bombers who worked a lot harder, got in front and generally wanted the pill a lot more than our boys. The inside knowledge applied to our side by McCartney and Thompson proved to be invaluable and the pressure applied to the Cats when we did get the ball was massive. I believe it was Geelong's lowest possession tally for about five years.

Losing after13 wins is a bit like getting out for 87 but I reckon we might be in trouble out West next week as well. We need Selwood back and Corey has been massive for us this year as Bartel didn't have much of an impact two weeks after his concussion. Essendon were too good and should have won by more but they ran out of puff a bit towards the end.

Well played.

regards,

REB

Gee thanks for the praise REB, after our last few weeks and Geelong first 5 minutes i was thinking here we go again. To the lads credit they busted their gut and seemed to have a real game plan. Geelong were always going to come back like the champs they are. Felt a bit for young Hibbard, had the better of Stevie J all night only for him to kick the last 3. We definately are a 5 goal better side at Etihad but now we need to backit up next week against a Tigers side who will come out swinging after yesterdays effort. Hopefully the Hird knockers can chill for at least another week, have no doubt we are working to a plan and we must be patient its not going to happen overnight. Definately one of our best wins in years.

I don't think there's any doubt that Hird has done a fantastic job, especially in creating a fortress at Etihad, similar to years gone by of the Gabbatoir, the Eagles House of Pain, and recently Geelong at Skilled.

He's getting the best out of a very exciting list, and I suppose the next step is to win games away.

Well done to the Bomber boys, just a pity for us that it was against Bomber Thompson... :(
