Essendon 5 & 2 going in to tonight - very deceiving
Fell in against non finalists Freo by 6 pts, Syd by 6 pts, Adel by 3 pts, struggled to beat North by 14 pts
Lost to Carlton, have been touched up by the Dogs & now Bris.
Only decent win was Coll by 15 pts.
Still have GWS, StK, Rich, WC, Geel & Port to come - currently won’t get close to any of them
50/50 games with GC, Haw & Melb

Every Essendon fan knows the score. Soft draw to start the season and badly undermanned. Even the most optimistic fans have us winning maybe 2-3 more tops.
I don’t know any Bomber fans that at the start of the season had us in the top 8, most thought 10th-14th is about it

To be fair to the optimistic Bomber fans though, you could have a spine of Andrews, Moore, Cripps, Cameron & Kennedy and still not rate them.

The proof is in the pudding.
When guys keep letting you down and making the mistakes it’s little wonder fans lose faith in the club.

Collingwood has been hit with an effective $25,000 fine from the AFL after senior coach Nathan Buckley and assistant coach Brenton Sanderson broke coronavirus protocols by playing a tennis match with people outside their club contacts.

Australian Fed Cup captain and former world number eight, Alicia Molik, is reportedly one of the people who played tennis with Buckley and Sanderson.

"Both Buckley and Sanderson immediately reported the inadvertent breach to Collingwood officials when they realised they didn't have the appropriate approval to partake in the activity," the statement said.

AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said the league appreciated Collingwood's self-reporting of the breach and had sanctioned them $50,000, half of which would be suspended.

"We note that tennis is an approved exercise activity however approved participants are limited to approved club staff, players, household members and immediate family," he said.

"Notwithstanding the inadvertent nature of this breach, it doesn't excuse the responsibility to abide by the protocols."

The sanction came a day after the AFL handed four clubs — Hawthorn, Carlton, North Melbourne and Richmond — fines totalling almost $200,000 for breaches of the league's COVID-19 protocols.

"At the time, we believed we had followed and adhered to the protocols as required but after returning to the hotel and readdressing the circumstances it became crystal clear that we had breached the current AFL protocols," the pair were quoted as saying.

"The competition is asking its constituents to make great sacrifices for the show to go on and we have all accepted these for the long-term future of the industry and the privilege of participating within it."

The club's chief executive Mark Anderson said the breach was a "very disappointing reminder" of the vigilance required to keep the competition running.

"Our game has been granted the right to continue to play by governments around the country," he said.

"In exchange for that right, we simply must do all that we can to protect the health of our players, staff and the communities in which we are living and playing.

"As a club, we apologise, vow to be better and fully accept the penalty."

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has not made a public statement about the sanction handed to the club.

He said on radio on Friday that the AFL should move towards an approach where "if anybody transgresses you're on the plane home".

"I think that's where it's just got to be," he said on Triple M.

"It's just got to be so clear cut that no-one can have any mitigation that 'oh I thought this happened, I heard that that happened or I didn't know you couldn't do that'."

He also told Fox Footy on Friday night — when speaking after the AFL had earlier penalised the Hawks, Blues, Kangaroos and Tigers — fines should be handed out to individuals found to have breached the league's COVID-19 protocols.

"I think the people who breach the protocols should be fined personally, to be honest," McGuire said.

"You can get to the clubs in due course, I think the AFL's set it out. But I think it's got to be a personal fine."

McGuire has been criticised earlier this season for saying he was proud of the way Collingwood star Steele Sidebottom accepted his four-game suspension for breaching protocols, despite having earlier said "maybe it does have to be $100,000 [fine] and you get suspended for the year" for breaking the quarantine rules.

Mitch Cleary is employed directly by the AFL I believe so you would think his obligations to the AFL should override any obligations he has a journalist.
Bizarre decision either way

Codswallop! His job as a journalist is to report on football news, not to drive AFL propaganda, that's rubbish Jim and his sacking has the finger prints of a dictator all over it.

No, his obligation is to report on facts, the AFL have chosen for those facts to be screened before they become facts. Hocking's prints are all over this. All about the "look of the game".

I’m not saying I agree with it but that would be the logic the AFL would be applying.
Any journalist that writes or says anything disparaging against the AFL is threatened to have their accreditation removed, just ask Grant Thomas.
The AFL is an absolute dictatorship, not sure how people already didn’t know this

Immediately anything written on the AFL.com site now has zero credibility. I feel for the journo's who are left, hardly worth them putting in.
