Surely that gets dismissed quickly. As you said two blokes going for the footy, Thomas braced for protection throughout the process, should get thrown out in 2 seconds

The AFL has gone a tad soft in recent weeks on the high contact rule so he should have no problems getting off.

It is the AFL though so he is just as likely to get a couple of games.

Historians of the game.. do we know why "in the back" was introduced when it comes to tackling? was it safety? Do we actually need it? Players (myself included) are at various times guilty carrying the tackle weight forward to trick umps.

Has he had too many head knocks?

- It is deadset dangerous to get pushed in the back while running.
- You cannot perform an accurate kick while being pushed in the back.
- You cannot brace yourself for the contact you are going to receive if someone is about to push you in the back.
- It would be pretty simple to push someone into the fence , coaches box, crowd or goal post.

That's a judgement call for the umpire, a tackler should be trying to retard the player from making a clean disposal and turning him to his side while wrapping him up.

Tackling standards have dropped considerably over the years, probably due to a lack of human tackling at trainings through fear of injuring team mates, there's no resistance with a tackle bag.

I think it's pretty pathetic that they could only draw 18k at a venue 2km away from the MCG along the railway line.

Is Docklands that bad? Surely you'd still rather see your team play footy than not?

I’ve heard from some members that a group had organised a boycott of the game to stick it up the AFL.
Members of MCG clubs hate going there as it is because they are used to their regular seats especially older members.
Personally my home seats at Marvel are some of the best seats I’ve experienced anywhere around the world and love Marvel. It can be sterile at times but if it’s a close game even a smallish crowd can make a lot of noise

Think that was evidenced yesterday, where despite a poor game being played, the atmosphere was excellent in the last quarter due to the close nature of the contest.

I have limited experience at Marvel/docklands.
However, listening to the rubbish that it's soul-less etc I find is just absolute rubbish.
I actually think the atmosphere created under the roof is quite a vibrant one and the roof helps to amplify the crowd.

My issue is, go in for a day game and then when you walk out you forget it's actually a day game and your eyes become shocked there is still natural light (can't say sun, we know they don't get much vitamin D) as you have become accustomed to the bright lights of marvel
