Correct, but for the females playing footy in Australia, this is the elite.

Haven't been able to find an answer; does anyone know whether what constitutes time on in the AFL Women's is the same as time on in the men's game? I have just noticed that in spite of the amount of stoppages that time on seens to be extremely short. Yes I know not many goals are being scored, but the amount of stoppages seems pretty high.

Stoppages for goals and injuries only.

Yep seems weird there is no time on at least in the last 3-4 minutes of the last quarter, wait until the GF and there is 30 seconds left and the team winning kicks the ball deep into the home crowd who refuse to give it back!

I used the no time-on rule in a grand final to good effect once.
If there's a chance of benefit, it will happen.

Also smaller ovals will not help, it will only make it more congested and physical....I think in time the game will become more open, the players are still very early in the learning curve of movement of the ball from inside to outside. With some good coaching it will only improve.

Agreed. They ( Adelaide, the top team for example ) have played 3 games together as a unit, perhaps 2-3 sessions per week over the end of year period, so probably 20 or so sessions together and that's not with all the girls from the NT being present.

We all know the importance of understanding team rules, team mates abilities when it comes to instinctive handball ( ie I know there will be someone "out the back" ) which, as Dutchy duly notes, will see the game improve as the "inside" ball becomes "outside". Then, the outside game will improve with more trust of the inside play.

Imagine getting to season proper or during a season and a star player gets pregnant
Could cost a team a Premiership
As absurd as it may be, now or in the future ,would there be non condom sex curfews on the women players , similar to drugs and alcohol ?

Mate, it's something that professional women in sport deal with already, even to the point where I'd say 99% of them take the birth control pill to control when they have their period so it doesn't interfere with match days etc.
I think that's probably that's contributing factor into their season being relatively short too.

I tend to agree with you there, I've umpired plenty of SAWFL and it's the large ovals that the scoring is higher and the quality of the game is better as they girls need space to compose themselves to get away a cleaner delivery, there's quite often 5 minutes of continual ball ups until you just try to find a free kick to force some sort of clearance.

I see the AFL (according to Mr Rucci) are asking the SMA to waive the $60K fee for opening AO if it is required for the AFLW GF. Will be VERY interested as to how the SMA approach that!

Wonder whether her partner would play, or insist on being present for her childs birth?

It is only going to get bigger guys.

One day the girls will take on the boys.

It's a long way off but it will happen. :D

Once females couldn't vote.

We have had a female prime minister.

Now possibly a AFLW premiership team.

Times change, be prepared.
