It seems from footage that if it wasn't for goodes nothing would've been done.

Or....I'm betting right about now she's thinking "if only I had kept my fat magpie mouth shut".....Goodes wouldn't have done nothing......

So it was fine when Dale Thomas pointed out a person in the crowd who had made racist comments?

The first response would show that Goodes can't be brought down, and that he's proud of himself and what he represents.
The second response resorts back to victim mentallity.

Regardless, whatever the Collingwood fan said was disgraceful, and should/will be made accountable for her actions- regardless of how Goodes responded.

I think the saddest part about the whole sage is that Goodes deserves the upmost respect as a sportsman and a person- he is a champion, and played a blinder last night.
300+ quality games deserves more respect than what the fan afforded him.

There was an incident in EPL where some fans threw bananas at an (African?) import, an Australian cricketer (Andrew Symonds) was called a monley by an Indian cricketer (and was not held accountable), there are racially motivated murders all over the world- if this is our worst example of racism, we are well ahead of the rest of the world.

Australian society is jumping at shadows, and there's always someone ready to pounce, declaring someone a racist- very evident in this thread.

So are you saying she is a racist or isn't a racist?

Seems most agree Goodes did the right thing. Small minority think otherwise.

Well done to Eddie Maguire for his handling of the incident. It would be his worst nightmare.

What happened certainly wasn't pretty but lets not go calling anyone a racist yet.
IMO there is a difference between being a racist and making a racist comment.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

Totally agree on both points.

I wonder if Goodes was more upset that something was said or that fact it was someone so young said it?

I am a ranga and often get called it on the football field. Therefore I am called an orangatang every week.

I don't care what animal I am called on the football field. Sheep, Polar Bear whatever.... why is it that I can get called an animal and some cant?

Why are the media still allowed to do lookalikes of animals of Gary Lyon and if you did one of certain people it would cause WW3?

Confused poster at the differences.

I have a fairly open minded friend who happens to be indigenous and as it happens is also friends (cousins) with Goodes. Forget what any of us as privileged white Australians want to say to buy into this just for a minute.

His thoughts and I quote "Goodsey who has done so much for our cause has single handedly just undone years of his own work to have our claims for equality be held with any credibilty"

He then told me that he has never heard an Indiginous person called an ape that has any raciast overtones and would have no greater meaning than if the girl had of called Ivan Maric or Dermott Brereton an ape.

Wasn't it Adam Goodes cousins that used to be discriminatory towards Adam when he was going to school?
