Essendon will play the most with four, while Carlton, Hawthorn, Geelong, Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions will each play three Thursday night games in the first 16 weeks.

Excellent, I can get my disappointment sorted before the weekend even starts.

Jim is excited because he can carry some hate for longer.
Nope. I love the Thursday games. When we lose in the round I don’t watch a single second of other games for that round so after we lose on Thursday night I have the weekend free.

Got nothing to do with our form and I can assure you many fans don’t want it. Commercially it might be a good deal but our members overwhelmingly have stated they hate Thursday night games so will be interesting to see if they turn up
With our Marvel deal ending I know the club was trying to leverage a better deal and have been given an extra MCG home game this year but perhaps Thursday night was also a bargaining chip

Round 7, eek. I think Melbourne will nose dive next season, not that I'm much of an expert.

So am I getting this right?

They start by scheduling gather round (approx round 5)

They then schedule Opening round and all Thursday night fixtures.

They will then work around them games to sort the rest of the draw?

No, the draw was completed a while back. They officially release the draw tomorrow but selectively release bits of the draw early as to get media and clicks in the offseason. It’s all stage managed to keep the AFL front and centre

Sorry, not sorry. Not a fan of Thursday Night footy.

At least the Hawks 3 games are all "away" games, although I will get 2 of them as "replacement" games I guess. Get fudged, I am not going.

9 Sunday night games next year and AFL keen to make that a permanent fixture in years to come. 7:20pm on a Sunday night is Terri for those that actually go to games but will be huge for TV. Trialling a double header at Marvel next season too
