Premiership Drought

Talk on the national game

You know which two clubs probably have the biggest home-ground advantage in the competition now? Adelaide and Port Adelaide.
They have a new stadium which is crammed every single week with a partisan, sometimes feral, crowd that is almost confronting to play in front of (or support an opposing team in).
The facility itself is perfect for building up a fear factor for opposing teams - supporters are close to the action and the ground is popular enough to be full every week.
And the two local clubs trade off on that well.
Compare that to the Dogs, Saints or Kangas playing to a half-full Docklands, where the crowd is often made up of as many away supporters as home, or to Melbourne's home games in Darwin and I know who has the biggest home-ground advantage in that respect.

Better to have a true home ground/state advantage 11 times a year than 4 times a year with several neutral games.

Does anyone see the irony of a Collingwood supporter suggesting this?

It's got nothing to do with where they play the fact that Dogs, Saints or Kangas cannot fill a stadium. Melbourne go to Darwin for the $$$, so do Hawks in Tassie but you don't see them complaining.

Also if you are going on that logic, Freo and WCE trump the Adelaide sides

The WA sides do have a bigger home ground advantage than anyone because its dangerous in Perth. Just look at the Freo supporters [emoji6]

Also on Adelaide you might get beaten to death by a grannie with her hand bag.

In Adelaide you need to be cautious if you are an opposing coach

Did I mention Collingwood? Did I say anyone is complaining? I didn't even mention the on-going complaint, that you turned to, about Melbourne clubs having a 'massive' advantage over the interstate clubs.
I'm talking home-ground advantage and talking the local facility, Adelaide Oval, and clubs, Adelaide and Port, up.
The two clubs here have turned it into a fortress - all power to them for doing so, pardon the pun.
Do you truly believe the Dogs, Saints and Kangas have a greater home-ground advantage than Adelaide and Port?
HGA isn't just about travelling.
And, yes, Freo and West Coast have a fantastic HGA, with their hyper-partisan crowds, it's just their facility is not as good and not as imposing as Adelaide. That is also balanced by the massive amount that their travelling time (not an hour flight across the border) takes out of them when they go away.

West Coast and Fremantle are going to have an absolute fortress on their hands when this new Perth Stadium is up and running.

For mine- I do believe (due to the nature of the crowds), a full house at AO is still less intimidating than a full house at Domain.

Have you been there for a game? Curious to know what it's like for an opposition spectator.

Standing in the Northern end goal square with 48000 people looking at you could be very intimidating.....

I haven't personally. I am basing my opinion on the number of power fans that I know, who went over for the semi final in 2014.

A particular work colleague went to all 3 finals in 2014- and said that Perth was another level compared to Adelaide and Melbourne.

It might not seem it at this point, but I do think the Saints are assembling a decent core. Billings/Longer/Dunstan/McCartin/Newnes/Goddard. Add another quality defender to that mix alongside Carlisle (if acquired) in this draft, and they may begin their rise by 2017.

Yeah I like what they're doing at Moorabbin* too, but replacing Rooey sometime soon is another huge obstacle for them.

Really last time I checked the opposing coach threw the first one, which is something commo at the moment. Seems a Scott brother is also that way inclined ;)

As Bombers supporter id say Domain is far worse. Crows and Power supporters just give a heap of stick and throw the odd cup of beer over you. In Perth they are alot more confrontational

After leading the 09 and 10 GF's during time-on of the final term and coming home empty handed, I have little faith in St Kilda ever winning a flag.

West Coast were fine, as they won.

Fremantle on the other hand.....I have seen some dog acts at the footy, but never have I seen a bloke hit a woman.
