It's about time too. They're just glorified scratch matches to me.

What's the Challenge in Nab Challenge stand for then?

The entry fee. $18 FFS

I think the way they're doing this year is good...

However i have an issue with the fact that cows play power, swans v giants, lions vs GC and West coast play freo... Why have showdowns in the pre season... ridiculous...

So the AFL can save on airfares.
With all the travel the interstate clubs do during the year its probably fair they dont have to travel as much for practice games

Just putting it out there - but maybe so teams don't have to travel - giving them more recovery time from the first game(s).

to cut down on travel time. understand the reasoning behind it.

and the crows have played the power every pre-season for the past few years i reckon, well at least a significant proportion of them, and i couldnt tell you who won them, so i dont think it matters all that much

Booney wrote:Shit concept, worse than the triple-headers of last year.

Why not let each club just decide amongst themselves how many games they wish to play and they work it out where they play?

For instance, you would think the clubs who played deep into finals last year may want an extra hitout to expose their younger brigades to the level, while teams in the middle of the ladder who pretty much know their side might not want to play as many games externally, one or two trails with a couple of intra club matches being sufficient. I would think all clubs would have a different idea as to what is best for them and their squads through February.

I think, IIRC, Adelaide will play 3 games in 15 days then will have 21 days from their last NAB match to Round 1 against Geelong. That's hardly ideal*?

*Like I give a rats toss bag.. ;)

NAB sponsorship and lets try out the bulltish rules my friend. Can the clubs organise praccies for themeselves after the 'official' pre-season games?

Yes- but only to the airport for their 4 away trips per season.

Have a look at their interstate record over the last 10-12 years.
Winning interstate hasn't been a problem for them.
In a perfect, fair comp Carlton and Essendon would also travel to Kardinia Pk, but that's never going to happen either.
