Moving to the topic and hand and not so much the AFL reserves debate...Chad Wingard is simply something special.

Indeed he is - those youngsters that GWS opted to draft ahead of him must be quite handy :)

I know GWS had concerns over Chads, desire to play at the highest level and work ethic. I think its fair to say that isnt an issue with him now. but at the time he was coasting through underage footy and while doing well on the field, his training at league level was poor and that created doubts.

U18 Captain of SA and All Australian U18, yes?

Seems like a pretty good work ethic to me.

read what i wrote boon, I didnt say he wasnt extremely talented/worked hard on game day, but AFL clubs look at much bigger picture.... His work ethic at trainings was questionable when 16/17 years old

More likely that was the impression that he was trying to get across to avoid going to GWS, rather than any truth in the matter.

Very risky thing to be doing though

Although I can see where you are coming from. I can even see it this year with a SA potential draft selection....

Probably happens more than is known about - supposedly happened with Cyril Rioli, too.

Probably because he was too deadly and the level wasn't challenging him enough so got bored with it and that's why he didn't work hard enough.

His showdown game was outstanding - easily BOG.

I read that Keith Conlon from 5AA called that Johnston should have won the showdown medal as opposed to Wingard! WTF - was he even at the game or is he that one eyed he cannot acknowledge a worthy winner both team and individual???

Lewis played just ok IMO. 2 of his 4 goals were from 50 metre penalties and had they not been paid he wouldn;t have scored given how far he was out. Also his mistake late was one of 3 or 4 that cost the Crows shutting the gqme up when they had the match in hand - he bombed long from outside 50 on the flank when he should have either centred in front of the square or gone to the player leading into the pocket.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Wingard was head and shoulders above the rest, others i thought would've been considered:
Boak - Destroyed the crows in the last quarter and arguably got the Power home.
Griggs(?) - the young sub? He was simply outstanding I thought, kicked an important long goal in the 3rd quarter and his foot skills were 1st rate.
Dangerfield - He is a superstar! If Johnston passes him the ball and he goes back and slots it, he wins the medal.

Johnston was ok hardly dominant, and hasnt he been in the system a few years now anyway?
