AFL is considering putting player names on jumpers

Love the idea, North Adelaide have done it at least once in he last few years and it looked great. Would love it in the SANFL as it would be one less place to put a frigging advert. Be nice knowing who players are on TV and marketing wise its a no brainer.
Would also love sleeves like soccer and rugby and international rules but that's probably pushing it.

Not at all, sleeveless tops are tacky and can't be worn casually like most other sporting tops. There's no reason for it.

Hawthorn wore some in a pre season game and changed them at half time because they were restrictive for overhead marking. Wont happen.

I think you will find it was an overly-hot day (pre-season?), and may have even been up north (Brisbane), was more the factor than over-head marking being an issue

Rugby players, goal keepers in soccer, gaelic football players and internation rules players didn't seem to have a problem.
But Hawthorn are pretty pathetic though.

I agree with gloves but I love seeing players donning the Longy! It should be encouraged, they are the best, I loved seeing legends like Hird and Silvagni run around in them.

WAFL side South Fremantle's players had their names on their jumpers about 30 years ago. They were the only club to do it and it only lasted a couple of seasons. The initiative never really caught on.
