If the rule was for sliding in to take out someone's legs I'm all for it, what I saw last night is just dumb. The bombers handled it well to be honest. The next thing you will see is more head to head clashes because everyone is trying to keep their feet and bend over and pick up the ball. Keeping your feet and picking up the ball cleanly in a contest is hard, not every player in the game can do it, players are recruited because they get in on the ground and I've it out to the outside players. Been done for over 100 years now and players now have to change thief game for a stupid rule! Hate it.

Exactly. I'm not flexible enough to pick up the ball from the ground on the run. If this rules comes into amateur football I'd better start stretching now!

amateur is a completely different question, any afl player should be able to bend down and pick the ball off the ground. to me it slows down the play as majority of the time you end up have a stopage.

Watch what Reilly did last night to give away a free kick in front of goals and tell me it's a good rule.

Cost you the game as well.....as kids we were told to attack the footy....dumbo and mates at work. As a kid you were told to put your head over the ball. Some clubs have confered with the umpiring fraternity and others have not. Generally I'm not in favour of new rules and a few I saw got penalised in the NAB were ridiculous but I don't have a problem with the Davey decision or the rule in general.

Put your head over the footy and get protected. Slide in like Eric Cantona and get pinged. Yep, the Crows lost at home and out come the tissues.

I don't have a problem with the AFL trying to reduce injuries. But over the last 100 years players have just move there legs from a player sliding in. But now I think they will keep there position and try and get a free. So it could cause more injuries?

Hopefully you're wrong joker. I think players now are putting their heads in where they didn't do before and sometimes instigate contact to get the free. I have nightmares of Neil Sachse every time I see a player do this.

Tex might have the same ability with sarcasm as you but he is not dumb. 99% of people agre with him. Reilly was the one putting his body on the line and acting with courage, not Davey. Sliding in like Cantona is a ridiculous comparison.

Football used to be a game of nuances, played at ground level, body on body and in the air. It is fast becoming homogenised.

What's next? A rule stopping players backing into packs to eliminate another avenue to injury?

Sliding in to a player already on the ground should be banned as it is very dangerous. Sliding to attack the football is completely different and should be play on. If you get caught doing it and can't dispose of the football holding the ball should be paid as it normally is.

Yep, he's a rocket surgeon I'm sure. I was talking about a soccer like tackle not Cantonna's karate abilities. Davey got knocked off his feet by someone sliding in, this has been outlawed, some clubs have sought clarification, the Crows have not. If Rielly got in low head first he would have won the free. You don't have to be as smart as Tay Tay to work that out.

Like it or not, it's here and I believe there are worse rules going around and I'm no KB fan. 99%, Hmmm, maybe if you are talking Crows supporters.

Then he will modify his game. Geelong and North have contacted the umpires seeking clarification of the rule. It can't hurt. (Literally :)

If a rule brought in by a committee run by one of the softest players ever, KB, makes one of the games gutsiest players retire, then I may as well stop watching, coaching and supporting footy.

Leigh Matthews and before him Neil Kerley would have played about 60 games max over their careers if they played under today's rules. We really have changed the face of footy for no real gain
