Whats their motive for telling the AFL they did a dodge?

Tippett's management also being aware of the agreement?

Yeah, but if Tippetts management came forward and said, "Hey, we did a deal with Adelaide to send Kurt to any club he wants for any offer," not only would the Crows be in the shit, but also Tippett would be rubbed out of the AFL for a year, and his management company would probably cop sanctions regarding dealing with AFL players and clubs in the future.

Its a no win situation. I think if anything happens, Kurt would be the biggest loser, he'd lose hundreds of thousands of dollars, as well as have to fight his way back into the AFL in 12 months time.

It seems to me it was in neither Tippett's or the club's interests for this to get out because both can be found to be involved in draft tampering and both can cop sanctions.

If this whole Tippett saga is not draft tampering, right back from the 2009 agreement to Tippett naming his new club in 2012, then I don't know what is.

It will be interesting to see what fallout comes from this.

It's not draft tampering becasue no club was ever excluded from gaining his services. He has the right to put a $ on his contract, and all clubs have the opportunity to offer it.

It is if they followed through with the deal. The deal was to trade him to the club he wanted (in QLD) for ANY compensation. That way, say the Suns, could give the Crows a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him in a trade, and no other club would get a look in, even if they were willing to give the Crows a 1st round pick.

Since he "changed his mind" and wants to go to Sydney, the Crows obviously feel like they've been played, and are refusing to trade him for essentially nothing. Now they want good compensation.

Don't see how it's the Players fault. Management and club dodged up the deal.

Can someone explain what exactly Adelaide has done wrong? They agreed to trade Tippett, so what?
If they chose to trade him under what the "market value" may be, then surely that is their picnic and potential penalty in the future by getting worse draft picks/players

UK Fan,

Tippett asked for the deal as a condition of signing the last contract. He must have. The alternative scenario is the club said "hey Kurt, thanks for signing but we want to add this little clause in so we can lose you for a 2nd round draft pick later on".

I think Tippett has been holding a gun to the club's head for 4 years which is why I say they should have just traded him back then.

The club is culpable too for agreeing to the deal. Both parties as thick as thieves on this one.

Whichever way you look at it, it's not plausible IMHO that the Crows have "outed" themselves just to try and mess Tippett up, as was previously being suggested.

The rules are in place so the stronger teams dont just keep getting stronger, while the weaker teams get weaker. The draft is in place to get good players to the lower teams. Also, since Tippett isnt a free agent, every club should be able to have a crack at him. If they let Tippett pick the club and tell him they'll take whatever they offer, of course the players going to pick a top end club instead of a struggler. (A struggler that would have better draft picks to offer, but never get the chance)

I assume the AFL sees all contracts for all players & approved. The contract submitted to the AFL is the only contract that is legaly binding. Any other contract signed by either party would be void I assume. There fore the agreement between player & Club would only be a handshake agreement & if either party is not happy then the normal trading procedures will follow. Which is negotiating an acceptable deal between Sydney & Adelaide or otherclubs if possible or if no agreement then into draft where the players real pay requirements are revealed. This may open up other clubs interest.
if this is the case I think Tippett & his management has opened up the can & not quite got what they thought.
