INSIDE FOOTBALL has done a really early mock draft of the first round.

A bit silly given placings/draft order, aren't known, but it does given an indication of who they think clubs may take, and what order they may be drafted in.

How does the father/son rule work? I mean how is it other clubs can dictate when a club must take the player?

So then players such as Ablett Jnr and hawkins don't slip to the 30s and 40s.... Makes it a fairer way for FS selections

Club A wants to select player B under the Father/Son rule.
Club B is willing to select player B with their first round draft pick.
Club A therefore has to match that selection with their first round draft pick.
It doesn't matter that Club B's first round draft pick may be #2 and Club A's FRDP is only #16, it's still valid due to the F/S connection.
This basically keeps clubs honest as to their F/S picks.
It will be interesting to see how Melbourne approach the Viney situation considering that they may have to use their FRDP to nominate him for F/S if another club also nominates him with a FRDP. If this is the case Melbourne may miss out on picking up a player that is better than Viney with their FRDP as this years draft is one of the best in years.

Melbourne might not be able to select any one as first round pick of Brock McLean's allegations are proven to be correct.....

Melbourne wouldn't be "welcoming" the AFL inquiry into this if they didn't already know what the outcome would be. I think this is more about two parties being seen to be doing the right thing. Nothing will come of it.

Does that mean that Club B could potentially force the Club A into selecting a player at an earlier time so as they can then pick up potentially a better player with their pick, whilst really having no actual interest in the player Club A picks up?! If that makes sense lol!

For instance Joe Bloggs looks a gem and expected to go top in the draft, and A. Smith comes under FS rule and looks a likely sort, so the club with selection below the FS side express interest in A. Smith so to leave Bloggs available for their selection.?

Surely the second club is held accountable to their bid, meaning the original club could call a bluff if one existed?

I would say so, if the other clubs do bid, they would have to honor the pick. Otherwise there would be heaps of mock picks, and no point in having the system.

One would assume this draft selection would already be lodged with AFL officials before the draft begins.
