Bollocks. Martin in the ruck, Jamar up forward. Watts getting stronger every year. Howe already ahead of Miller. His gameplan is 5hite and continued mediocrity awaits the Demons if they reappoint this bloke. The press is in it's third season and still Bailey hasn't a clue about how to counter it. Their matches against 'press teams' Collingwood, Carlton, West Coast and St Kilda this year are an embarrassment to AFL football. He hasn't got a clue.

I'd hardly call watts mature, jamar, when playing, has spent a majority of his time rucking, as has martin. Leaves a very inexperienced defence and a forward line housing miller (shite) and developing players in watts and howe. Regarding their matches against the better sides in the comp, dont you think it would be easier for bailey to counter the press if he had the cattle capable of doing so?

I don't reckon you actually watch Melbourne after reading that comment. Watts IS mature. He is developing before our very eyes. His hunger at the contest, second efforts and all round physicality are way up on last year and he'll be a monster sooner rather than latter. Jamar, in recent matches has been playing UP FORWARD with Martin in the ruck. Miller, btw plays for Richmond now! As for Power forwards does Carlton have them? Or Sydney? Or Freo? You don't need 'Power' forwards in the old school sense of the word, you just need someone who can take contested marks or bring the ball down to the ground and the players I have mentioned are more than capable of doing that.

As for having the cattle for combatting the press, Melbourne already have the cattle. All you need is run and I reckon Melbourne has that. Take Cale Morton for example. Gone nowhere in recent times due to injury but a new coach could see him develop in leaps and bounds. What you need to combat the press is to work hard and spread to space, be patient when you have the ball and BE WELL DRILLED. On these points Bailey is a fail. What Melbourne lacks is a decent gameplan and a more consistent level of application. Again the coaching must take the blame. Bailey is gone and if he's not then Melbourne are.

My bad on the Miller comment

I have watched Melbourne this season REB, and maybe you and I differ in our comparisons. Yes i agree that no side needs the "power" forward of the 90's/early 2000's, thats not what i meant. I just see the success that sides like collingwood (cloke), geelong (pods) and hawthorn (buddy) have by having that power forward to take the oppositions best defender (none of these forwards spend substantial time in the ruck like jamar). Never did i doubt watts' endevour, attack on the ball, effort and skill. What i meant was based on the previous names, Watts isnt that standard YET.

I can agree with the 2nd part of your post. I dont think that bailey is a master coach, but i do think that melbourne will show faith in him for next year to try and continue developing his squad. Whether melbourne turn to complete shambles if he continues remains to be seen. You say yes, im not so convinced. Just my opinion.

Cloke, Pods and Buddy all a lot older than Jack. I'd have Watts ahead of Cloke and Pods at the same age. Watts' improvement this season has been astounding. But no, Watts isn't at that standard yet.

I reckon they can't go anywhere with Bailey. It's not just the top three Melbourne can't beat. They can't beat St Kilda, Carlton or even North either. Bailey's record at Etihad and against Victorian teams in general is appalling. It should be starting to even out by now but the Demons are still proudly owned by the Kangaroos who are also in redevelopment mode minus the high draft picks.

Yep agree re: Watts. I was one who wrote him off as a waste of a pick 1 but has turned himself around bigtime and im very much looking forward to him taking that next step looking on from a neutral perspective.

Baileys record cant be taken on full face value though as he did take over at a time when melbourne couldn't knock off caseys reserves side.

I do believe they will keep him on in 2012 unless a gem like a malthouse or roos (both highly unlikely at this stage) becomes available. If melbourne are still in this predicament 12 months from now then i do believe questions will be asked and thats when i see bailey being given the shove.

I think Melbourne, Carlton* and Bulldogs will all have secret meetings with Malthouse and try get him, if they can one of those coaches will be sacked and may be recycled elsewhere, perhaps the Crows.

I think now would be the time to replace Bailey, espically if Malthouse is up for grabs.

As for there list, they really have no excuses, they should be a lot better at the moment than what they are. If Bailey is retained then anything less than a finals spot in 2012 will have him gone. That list has so much talent it is rediculious to think of some of the performaces they have put in this season.

No. Sounded like an old fellow, reckons a friend of his is fairly high up in a big bank and he was told this. Im presuming Westpac are big supporters of the Crows.
I reckon 16 other clubs are praying Craigy stays on :D

If Bailey is still there next year, you could make an argument that they're looking for Malthouse in 2013 or another coach that may have run his race somewhere else or someone looking to get back into it i.e. Eade, Roos.
