Sloane off a HBF? I would prefer to see him off the bench rotating through the midfield. Andy Otten straight back to the HBF. Good looking team on paper PM.

Yeh mate, most people like him forward but I like his attack on the ball and would prefer him to be the rebounding defender than Doughty. Having said that Otten and Tambling are both on the bench and could play HBF roles which would allow Sloane and Danger to switch through the middle.

I don't mind that idea PM. The only thing that would worry me is his foot skills coming out of defence. The kid has a GREAT deal to offer and really won me over last year.

Looking forward to the first home game (Round 1?) being an 'anniversary game' against Hawthorn.

A great way to start the year I reckon. :D

Fixture is out and it's a pretty good one IMO. Gives us every chance to return to finals action.

With 3 games at AAMI & a bye in the first round, we also have a good opportunity to avoid the kind of start we had this year.

Add to that only having to travel outside of Adelaide and Melbourne 3 times during the year. We have 4 Friday night games this year also, with 2 of them being back to back. missing the finals is not an option in 2011 IMO!

with the new lnterchange rule i think maric will slip to number 2 ruckmen behind Jacobs leading to him playing majority of the year in the Sanfl. Jacobs will ruck majority of game time with tippett to do the ruck in the forward line and pinch hit in the ruck for 5-1o mintutes to give Jacobs a break in the forward line.

I'd consider moving Tippett to CHF and Maric to FF for a pre-season trial as he can take a grab..
I'm not convinced that Taylor Walker is up to CHF or FF yet.

Im not sure about anyone else but im very happy the crows have given Callinan a chance of getting picked up. He was a standout in the SANFL. What's people's thoughts on him getting a contract?

Most people wrote Hayden Skipworth off as well and he went to Essedon and played some very good footy, hopefully Callinan has a chat to him as I think he would be a good investment for any AFL club that wants to pick him up.

Definitely worth a look IMHO .. I know it's a different level of footy, but there's no questioning his ability and his foot skills would already be better than many at that level.

teams are aloud to play 40 in the nab cup. so all the players will get a look.

Was talking to a former Centrals/Power player who is still tied up with the Power and he seems to think Callinan will be the substitute player for the crows. He doesnt have a big enough engine to play a whole game of AFL week in week out but could centrainly have an impact in a half or less. thoughts?

I would have thought Adelaide would be of a mindset to use a defender as the supersub/exchange player. The game is built on defence these days, unlikely to use a forward pocket for a second half, especially a coach like Craigy.Whats Callinan going to achieve if we are 6 goals down at half time?

Scott Stevens comes to mind for me, can come on and replace a ruckmen or defender whilst plenty of midfield options to rotate through should a mid get injured (stiffy through the middle, stevens to back pocket for example).

Callinan is more likely to play the first half and be subbed out if he doesnt have the tank for 4 quarters.

I honestly cant see Callinan getting a game unless we get injuries to the blokes that play that forward pocket role like Porps, Jaensch, Douglas.

I agree with Stevens being the sub, could even see a Moran/Mckernan being the sub also to ruck/push up forward in the 2nd half!

It will be pure strategy to who the sub is as you can’t pick a sub "just in case someone gets injured" you have to play the game as everyone will get through uninjured

Completely agree H21, I think the sub will be used in different strategies, perhaps not used until 3 quarter time in some cases. Callinan isnt in the best 21, or 22. Will need a couple injuries or a very good NAB Cup to start before Porp or Jaensch. And with 1 less bench player its likely the forward pocket will return to the resting rovers position meaning 1 less forward position is available to a full time forward pocket.

the Crows would never had Drafted Ian Callinan if they didnt plan to play him at 27 years of age. he is the Replacement for Dangerfield or Porplyzia in the Forwardline, they have both spent the whole pre season in the Midfield Group. i expect him to be Upgraded on the Thursday before the first game and play round 1.

and the Sub is going to be a Ruckman. cant offord to have two in your 21 but cant offord to have only to have 1 in your 22 incase of injury.
