I'm going Van Berlo with Rutten his vice. Some really good candidates there but I don't think Vince has many leadership qualities.

Not a Crow supporter, but have been a massive fan of Rutten since day one.

Big on-field presence, an absolute lock-in each week, rarely misses matches.

He'd be the skipper, with Porps V/C

when port made cassisi captain i thought wtf. but he has realy come on as a footballer and relished the role. and in turn the team is performing well. i would give it to kurt, with porps his vice.whilst he is still developing his game i think he has leadership qualities . would love to see this guy develop and see him captain a very successful side for 10 plus years.

Best to continue the tradition of appointing South Adelaide players as the Captain of the Crows, - Bickley - Goodwin - Van Berlo.

Or west adelaide players in the Roo, Goodwin (played at Westies before south :) ), next it could go to Schmidt, Rutten, Porps, Tippett, Edwards ;)

i would love to see big Kurt get it. The way he drags the crows along with him (although in a big form slump), he has massive leadership qualities IMO. Or porpz because he is the most loved player in the comp IMO

The future of the Adelaide footy club is with it's youth....Dangerfield is clearly a future leader...give Goodwin one more year as captain and then hand over the top job to Danger in 2012.....it may be the only way we manage to keep this quality kid.

The only problem I see there is Goody playing next year...

He's been a fantastic player for such a long time... One of the best the Crows have had...

But, this has to be his last year.

Heres one from left field Ivan Maric, he has improved out of sight the past couple of years and he certainly leads from the front aggression wise. Why not have a big burly Russian (even if he isnt from Russia) at the top. He was the only player that ran to Pattys defence when the three Melbourne boys tried taking him to China THE HARD WAY! Dean Brogan has that sort of stature among the Power players.

Any thoughts?

Now that its all out in the open about Goody retiring its going to make the next few months interesting about everyone guessing who the next captain will be. I personally think Van Berlo will be captain, with Rutten as vice, and Dangerfield as deputy vice.

Will be a ballsy move to make Dangerfield captain but I hope they do.

van Berlo just doesn't cut it for me for some reason...not sure why.

In my eyes there is no other candidate.

I agree with you MW about VB. I love him as a player, gutsy and couragaeous but i question whether he is a good enough player to be captain. I know that doesnt seem to matter in today's footy, but i still have reservations.

No doubt Dangerfield will be captain material - just not sure if its too early next year for him though.

I don't think the captain needs to be the best player, but needs to be in the 18 or first 22 without any doubt. The rest of it is about having buckletloads of leadership on and off the field, on the field in setting an example, going in hard, voice, trying to individually change the outcome of a game and off the field in how they carry themselves.

James McDonald, Nick Maxwell and previously Richie Vandenberg are others that come to mind where a few eyebrows may have been raised initially. This decision for the captaincy will be the hardest one the Crows have ever had IMO as there is no clear standout.

Wouldnt suprise me if they err on the side of caution and give it to McLeod or Edwards, whichever one stays on for another year!
