Glass sets a good example too.
Bit harsh on both those lads.

Not harsh on anyone, just saying Cassisi is better, I wouldn't take offence if someone said Robran was a better footballer than I was.

Bingo, plus you have to be at least a half decent player to be a captain. Watson's average.

Just saying Cassisi would inspire me more than those I mentioned, its not like Im Port biased or anything either, ask Booney!

Nick Maxwell is without doubt the worst captain in the AFL in my eyes. The guy is a cheap shot merchant and week in, week out stands skinny little 18 year old that make him look like a superstar.

Even as a Port 'disliker' I can say that I like Dom as captain of Port and if the other Power players took his lead they'd be alot better off....

But for me, Maxwell :-q

That's not even debatable.
It's telling Pauline Hanson she isn't as hot as Beyonce.

*EDIT: Now I'm waiting for Psyber to tell me he would rather have Pauline Hanson because he does not prefer curvy women. Wait for it...

I hate the guy, but I've just seen him go headfirst into marking contests too often to discount his leadership.
Same goes for Dom, he's just not as vocal as most other captains. Tends to get the job done.
I would say him and Glass are similar in that respect.

Tom Harley ( before retirement ) a game breaker? Nup. Sound resolute defender who led with his actions and I think even REB would agree he was not an 'elite' player. Like and Ablett,Scarlett .....

They have charisma, personality, come across as leaders of men. Dom does not, he's a battler, making the best of his ability.

Not the type of debate that can ever have a winner, but it's my opinion, and I'll have it. I only made it a separate thread to clarify from the Power thread that I'm not a fisherman.

The fact he was considered the best candidate highlights the lack of leadership at Port. Chad probably would have been good if he wasn't so self consumed and spent so much time sticking it to the crowd after one of his personal pieces of play.

*should add I'm also no serial Power basher, I don't mind watching them (SA parochialism in me)

From Port Lincoln and not a fisherman, now ive heard everything. Think youll find the club went with Cassisi because he is a leader in the main area we have been deficient in for quite a while. We are currently building a new side and especially a new midfield with good young in and under players and i think Cassisi is the perfect choice to lead them. What we lack is leaders spread over the field. You cant tell me Harley was the only leader in the Geelong side as he spent his days on the last line of defence more often than not. He had great support all over the field. What has failed Port is the leadership group model as a whole, not a single person who as captain led a team that had many, many problems on and off field last year. The fact Cassisi had such a good year under that pressure speaks volume of his character.

You can't knock a bloke who leads in tackles and hard ball gets, especially if that is a perceived problem at a particular club. All of the captains offer something to their clubs which was why they were selected in the first place.

If so, kudos Michael Wilson, you were my favourite player.

Proabably anything below the top Div of any given comp. Amatuers,Southern,Country....when comparing it to the level of competition the player in question ( Dom Cassisi ) is playing.

I suppose some people have the same opinion of anything below the AFL, its an ignorant viewpoint IMHO but a common one none the less.

I thought a ;) on here indicated jest, taking the piss etc....(for the record I was a ruckmen/forward in A grade comps in various parts of Australia stretching over about 18 years)

If I'm not allowed to comment on Dom because I didn't play AFL then this site is shagged!!

Well said REB. This is a stupid thread getting the sort of responses these threads always get.

Unless you are in the friggin team meetings or at the club or on the field with them how can you possibly judge who the better captain is?

A bit high and mighty of you Hondo, you should learn to judge others less and just ignore topics you deem to be stupid.
I think its created some good discussion personally.

I don't.

I have a pet hate of these sort of threads. I see them on BigFooty all the time.

How can any of us know who the worst captain is? If the topic was who the best captain is we'd still have no real idea about it but at least it would be more positive.

REB said it better than I did. To make captain of an AFL club is something only a select few achieve and they wouldn't have the gig unless they offered something to the club most of which we wouldn't even see or know about.

PS: I am not judging anybody I am judging the topic.
