Shouldn't they be given the last match of round 1 and not the first so their supporters can at least have hope for a couple more days each year? Or do the AFL like putting them out of their misery quickly?

They should be dropped to the reserves and they would still come bottom. I really feel for their supporters. They suck.

I can't believe the AFL went for the same season-opening fixture 2 years in a row! You would have thought they'd learnt from last year's hiding and given us a decent game (featuring decent teams) to kick things off.

Having said that, I think they can take more positives out of last night than this time last year. I thought Connors was more than servicable, and their youngsters (most of which are in my fantasy teams!) showed good signs.

Newman is the only one I would take, probably take Jackson cause he is an honest tryer

Deledio in a better team would be a star, he had most possies for them and atleast breaks the lines with his pace, Newman is reciever and only had 11 touches..... he is a front runner! and as for Jackson, did you see his shot at goal

Id take Deledio and Dustin Martin and thats it

I think (from memory) Carlton and Richmond approached the league to make it a regular fixture. I think it's more an appetiser for the real stuff to follow during the weekend. Certainly so far it's been a fizzer.

Richmond should have their ability to have blockbusters taken off them, although the last two years it's been great for us, cos we've been sitting on top of the table this time both years :D

I think one of Richmonds biggest problems is their disposal! They seem to sh!t their pants when they get the footy and their disposal is woeful especially coming out of defence, and that is where you need to be precise or you will turn the footy over and it will result in a goal which happened on atleast 10 different occasions last night.

Dont get me wrong this is only 1 of many many problems down at tigerland but i think this is just one of the bigger issues that needs to be fixed before we see any improvements down at the tigers.

A great crop of young lads coming through and Hardwicks gamestyle might see some improvements and positive changes throughout the season but i wouldnt expect to see much improvement from them this season but maybe over the next few seasons. Well here is to hoping anyway!

Cotchin is struggling big time as well. He had big wraps before his injury, but he looks very underdone.

No doubt Cotchin was underdone. He was struggling. However even underdone you can't leave him out of that side. I would suggest Tuck would have eben value last night. Not sure if he is injuried, but another senior midfielder would have been handy.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, there backline struggled. Moore is developing and is ok, but the others are looking a bit thin at the moment, and as such there Carlton forward line got away from them a bit.

Still alot of young players who will only get better the for tigers this season, so there are some positives. But at this stage you would be thinking there going to be bottom 2.

He's obviously not saying that the Bombers should have played instead. They're going really well so far ;)

Simmo to retire (from foxsports.com.au):

Richmond's Troy Simmonds to play final AFL game against St Kilda

May 27, 2010 Richmond's Troy Simmonds will play his last AFL match against St Kilda, allowing the AFL's bottom-placed club to further fast-track their next generation of ruckmen.

Including the farewell encounter against the Saints, Simmonds will finish his career on 197 games in 12 seasons for three clubs – Melbourne Demons, Fremantle and Richmond.

The 31-year-old has battled a knee complaint this year, but said he was unconcerned to be retiring three matches short of the 200-game milestone.

"I've got no regrets. I'm really proud of what I've achieved and really it's just a number, whether it's 197 or 200," he said.

"The timing was right for the club.

"I've decided the time is now for me to step down and it is really a great opportunity for our three young ruckmen in Ty (Vickery), Angus (Graham) and Andrew Browne."

Simmonds's retirement will leave Ben Cousins - who turns 32 in June - as the only player aged in his 30s on the Tigers' young list.

The 23-year-old Graham is their oldest remaining ruckman.

Simmonds won't play in winless Richmond's clash against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

Simmonds played in the Demons' losing 2000 grand final side in just his second season, where he was taken off in a neck brace after a heavy hit from Essendon's Michael Long.

He moved to the Dockers in 2002 and was then transferred to the Tigers three years later, finishing third in their best and fairest award in 2006.

You little ripper, now if we win the next 12 games in a row from here on in we will probably miss out on the finals by percentage haha!

Great win for the young lads, didnt get to watch the game but from what i heard they ran harder and got to the ball first and their ball use in the wet was pretty good. Maybe it should rain at Etihad this week

I think it is what the team needed for a bit of confidence, the competition is so even right now (well from 13th upwards), any tipper who is getting more than 5 a week surely is just guessing, im struggling anyway...
