It's Linga!

With leadership groups and programs at the level they are these days compared to 20 years ago I think there's room for the younger players to have leadership roles without needing to be captain before they are really ready or before the group is ready for him.

I am sure Joel is on some program to become captain in a few years. He's one of my favourite AFL players.

I would have gone out on a limb and looked at more long term and gone with Joel Selwood.
Ahh well, I'm sure we'll be competitive again in 2010.

Joel may well be with the Gold Coast next year along with Ablett.

I am sure all you non Geelong people would love that wouldn't you.
Simple fact is that geelong is THE family club of the AFL, and the only club left with some loyalty coming from both players & committee.
They both will resign with Geelong this time, whether they go after the next contract remains to be seen, but they WILL resign this time because they would rather win with their mates than be big fish in a very small pond.

Reckon Ablett will go, the lure of large sums of money and his brother will be too strong.

LOL. Nate Ablett will be finished at GC before Ablett's current contract runs out. It's all too hard for him. He's already played in a PREMIERSHIP side with his brother. How is leaving his home town to play in a shit side with his brother who won't be getting a game be a lure exactly?

So what you think is that if they knew they weren't going to win much this year would they be gone? Real family that is. Stick around while you're winning but leave you're family behind when things get tough .
I doubt they are thinking like that though. I see them both being life long Geelong players and congrats to the pink pig on the captaincy.

I'll tell you why - cos Gazza won't exactly be selling the 'street bum' times in the streets of Geelong after his football career ends. Of course he is going to listen to the GC's offer, who wouldn't - but I reckon both Gaz and Joel will remain one club players, even though unlike some posters I won't claim to have inside knowledge of any particular football club.

They ain't going anywhere. They've already had the chance to rake in the coin but these Cats take paycuts.
