What astounds me is how the so-called experts all tipped Port to be a top 4 side this year.

Sure, they could've beaten most sides when they were at their best last year. But what team can't upset a more credentialled side on their day. Happens all the time.

Look at their list, across the board there is a severe lack of talent.
The top 6-8 players hold their own, but so many go missing for weeks.

Only players who can be sure of a contract next year are -

The Cornes brothers - The heart and soul of the team, but need more mates.
Cassisi - See above
Rodan - See above
S Burgoyne- Is the catalyst within their midfield
Gray - Tries hard, but still has a lot of maturing to do
Surjan - See above

I honestly cannot think of anyone else.

In stark contrast to the Crows list, balanced across the board with great depth and up and coming youngsters with potential, desire & heart.

Yes, some pretty poor performers in the side, but you have to include Carlile who is a quality full back, and Chaplin as well, who's had a good season so far too (before suspension).

Doesn't it worry Power fans how uninterested and slow these two look though?

They both played very well against quality opponents (Brown/Bradshaw) against Brisbane. I don't think they're any slower than the average key defender, and its pretty difficult when the midfielders are playing unaccountable footy.

Good rant Booney...agree with most.

I think Williams has created a comfortable postion for too many players down there.

I agree 100% with Salter, ive been very impressed with the bits Ive seen of him this year, he now has the body to play AFL and looks a far better prospect than Westhoff (who had one good year cause he was the 3rd/4th forward)

I said after the Roos game that Pearce should get the chop but never happened, why wasnt their mass changes after teh Darwin game?

And I mentioned it in the other thread that their doesnt seem to be any succession plan for their Rucks, Lade needs to be moved on (despite being a great servant) and one of the kids needs to ruck with Brogan before he hits the wall also...

Was amusing when McAvanvey went at Burgoyne yesterday, he almost felt embaressed to say it but was being honest

I think God was just evening things out.
Port should've never beaten Brisbane so he injured half of Geelong so the Lions could win, and made sure Liam Jurrah had a couple of extra Weet-Bix before the match so Melbourne beat Port.

Dennis Cometti also called Burgoynes effort shameful, or something similar. And it was a pretty fair comment. Agree with everything you said Booney. The thing i hate about the situation is we are a laughing stock all over Australia and we are not respected by anyone. And this situation has been coming for a couple of years and even worse i cant yet see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully we bottom out soon so we can start our march back up the ladder.

The main problem with Port that I see is that they play too many front running outside players on the ground, Danyle Pearce, Peter Burgoyne and lastly David Rodan, who admittedly is probably the best and most consistent of the three. Among others, simply cannot afford to have that many front runners in a side, cause the moment there is the slightest bit of adversity you are ******.

This is not sour grapes as a Crows supporter but I genuinely don't feel Port are a top 4 side despite what the local media have predicted the last 2 years. I think 2007 was a year where 10 sides were very close and 2 of that year's top 4 created unrealistic expectations in 2008 and 2009. I look at Port's team and see 1 KPP defender short and 1 KPP forward short and a great midfield if everyone's fit but with not great depth at the moment.

So, to me, they are about where they should be on the ladder. It's this top 4 expectation that's driving some of the frustrations. That plus their inconsistency.

They remind me of Richmond under Wallace - they're running in number (1) without getting groups of guys to the footy. One bloke carries the ball but has no one in support. It's like half the team doesn't know what the other half is going to do.

Of course on 5AA on Saturday morning they were saying how Port would be 13-9 at season's end. Personally I couldn't see it. After KG said "Port will win", emphasising "WILL", I turned it over. Typical biased garbage Adelaide radio.

If I was Williams I wouldn't be pressing the issue of money too much in his contract negotiations.

Disagreed, I think he should be pushing it very hard.
How much is he offering to pay the club to be its coach anyway?

Preferably all of it. Highest paid coach in the AFL, how much was it again? Something like 800k a year?
North don't need to call in the investigators as its pretty obvious in one area as to why they're in so much debt.
And since he signed his last contract on for 800k he delivered worse results, lower crowds and less corporate support.
Let's reward him with a new contract!
Smart fiscal work that Power.
I'm stuffed if I know how you don't make money with that sort of policy.

If it wasn't the SANFL's money they were blowing it would be hillarious and not just comical.
