I rang Etihad Stadium and the gulls are locked in overnight if they are still in when the roof is closed. The roof gets opened daily until the afternoon when it is shut again for the night so any birds locked in stay. Except sparrows who can escape out thru some small holes here and there.

So despite you thinking that I presumed they stayed in there forever  they get the opportunity to leave each morning if they desire. So the roof would be shut about 50% of the time.... Question answered.
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

You're right Choccies, this was published January this year on AFL.com.au

Gulls a tough crowd to move

By THOMAS YENDELL

AFTER several incidents involving mass seagull swarms being trapped in Etihad Stadium last season, stadium officials have unearthed an ingenious way of luring out the birds post match.

Etihad Stadium chief environmental officer Rick Bisce yesterday revealed the cunning plan involving music to remove the repeat offenders.

“We simply play a series of loud hawk calls over the intercom,” Mr Bisce said yesterday.

“It plays on their number one instict, surival, and given sea hawks are a seagulls’ number one enemy, the system works a treat.”

“No mess, no hassle.”

The idea stemmed from stadium officials in Montreal, who called in a specialist to devise the removal method.

“It’s worked really well to date,” Mr Bisce said.

“The amount of seagull related mess we had previously had to deal with has halved, so we’re really happy with it.”

That said, it has not been a perfect solution.

"The hawk calls deter seagulls but they also attract other hawks looking to mate," Mr Bisce said.

"Some spectators have had their pre-game barbecues attacked by hungry hawks lured to the area but we see that as a necessary evil."

So it's not just Kookaburras that have adapted in this way to the modern environment.

would it matter if it was 80/20.... the point being that the roof opens often enough for your birds to fly in and out..

Be more specific.
Crows,Bombers or seagulls?

When the roof of 'The Dome' is open for a game (or half a game in the Crows v Bombers game last week...) and the stadium fills up with seagulls, how do they get the buggers out at the end of the day ???

I would think they would open the roof again once the game is over..

They did. Opened it almost as soon as the game finished.

was there for the first time Friday night for the Carlton and St.Kilda game.

All i can say is what a stadium to watch football from, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Leaves footy park for dead.

Awesome atmosphere and a huge amount of noise is generated under the roof. If you haven't seen football there, put that on your list of things to do before you die.
