So how long will he be out for now? will he play more than 5 matches this year?

RichmondFC.com.au

Ben Cousins will undergo minor surgery later today to repair a spiral fracture in the metacarpal bone of his left hand.

The injury was sustained in the opening minutes of Richmond’s loss to Port Adelaide yesterday.

“It was an extraordinary effort for Ben to play out the remainder of the match after being hurt so early,” Richmond Football Operations Manager Ross Monaghan said.

“We are hopeful he will only be out for one match.”

Cousins went on to collect 24 possessions (including 10 contested) and was among the Tigers’ best players.

Cousins was playing his second game in the seniors since returning from a hamstring injury sustained in round one.

Richmond suffered no other injury concerns from the Port Adelaide match.

cheers rod, one match isn't bad, but Richmond do look a bit silly picking up Ben Cousins, who knows how many games he will play.

That is a big assumption given that he has already played 3 and will only miss 1-2 with his hand which still leaves over half a season left.

Fair call, i was being a bit sarcastic there, but he won't play enough matches for Richmond to get their moneys worth.

He's on a very low salary at Richmond, equal to a first or second year player, so I think Richmond have done the right thing and provided he remains drug free I dont think the Tigers have lost anything so far by recruiting him to their club!

Ben Cousins is one of the best players we have seen in the past 20 years. He will only get better as he gets back into it. He will repay the faith Richmond have shown in him no doubt provided he stays drug free. He was brilliant yesterday.

It would also be a big assumption that an ex party animal two years out of the game with dodgy hammys aged over 30 could string more than three consecutive games together. So far this season he hasn't been able to do this. At a better club Cousins could be eased into action but the poor bugger has to carry the side from day one on one leg.
