He only really had a few decent games for Freo and ironically he fired up for the West Coast Derbys. The people who love getting stuck into Freo blame that clubs culture, but I think it's Carr himself.

Perhaps he lost the hunger after 2004?

He did say after last season that he wanted to move back to Adelaide anyway because of his missus and would go no matter what. Getting back onto Port's list was just icing on the cake.

Nah it was me Boon was talking to. Seems to be taking issue with every one of my posts at the moment. Maybe coz Port play Strut (what's with everyone writing Strut anyway, don't get it, dyslexic maybe?). Understand I had nothing constructive to say earlier, just thought we were allowed to have some fun on this site.
Anyway, i'll add an actual comment this time. Love watching a niggling Joshy at his annoying best. One of the best antagonisers in the business. Think the game has gone a bit past him now though. You could see the signs at Freo, he'd only really get involved in big games for example, derbies and against Geelong, Collingwood etc.
IMO this will be his last year at AFL level.

Now that is more like it. Yes,we can have fun on this site but the Crow and Power dedicated boards are not meant to be used by people trolling or looking for anything other than discussion. So responding to a thread about Josh Carr with nothing more than a IMO is a troll post.

Now that you have made some comments I can discuss them and I agree with them. AFL football has left Carr in its wake as speed and skill have never been Carr's strong points and the modern game is so reliant on these traits, I too think his time has come to an end. However, if Port play finals this year ( which I think we will ) in the tough centre square pressure of September I expect Josh Carr to be an important part of our midfields ability to soak up finals type pressure.

Reckon you could have a point there. Hardness can be very helpful in finals and he could prove valuable if he's at his annoying best.

Getting Josh Carr was supposed to compliment Port's outside runners with an inside hard nut. Unfortunately for the Power, he is no longer the player of five years ago, and consequently, this need has not really been met. Port has the wrong blend of player types and struggles when games are played close in and hard. Mark William's has to take some responsibity for this as he is invloved with the team makeup.

Think he was a PSD pick, which would only have translated into a last National pick, by which team the cream of the kids were long gone.

Certainly hasn't worked out as the Power would have hoped though and his career appears to be at a close.

Very easy for us to be so wise with hindsight, but remember he cost Port nothing, and wasn't going anywhere else.
And look at the other players offered in the same draft... They have all played less games than Carr.

Has it occurred to either of you geniuses that Port might not have recruited Carr with a long-term view ?
Maybe he adds value in the short term as an experienced Premiership player and hard-nut in mentoring the young players who have a long term future at Port. I don't think you need to be Einstein to work that one out guys....
BTW. To suggest Cousins has a future beyond 2009 is really stretching reality a bit far IMO, unless bionic hamstrings can be surgically implanted!

Reality is he's been a terrible pick up and probably wont play another game for the club.

If he's mentoring young players then he's not doing a great job of it. You can tell young players how to be hard at all you like, showing it on game day is what will really help them and he's not doing that is he.

Sounds like you agree with me. And yes, the plan didn't work as they hoped... but IMO was worth a try. And what has it cost ???

Im inclined to agree with the Hurricane ... Carr not working out is only one of many things that haven't gone right for the Power this season, they have bigger problems than that one to try and sort out in a hurry.
