Maybe they don't rate him?

I think you just answered your own question mate.

That or they think he will go through to the rookie draft and we will pick him up then?

Why would you risk it if you did really want him................... Sounds like they aren't that interested!

Nah, they'd just rather pick up a Victorian that wants to go home after a couple of years.

Crows have never rated him, the whole nominating him father/son was just a PR exercise, preventing the backlash from their 60k supporters who are still living off the 97/98 premiership fluke.

It's amazing that clubs can jag multiple premierships thanks to dodgy finals systems, zoning rorts, expansion teams snaffling all the draft picks off your rivals...

I reckon they're screwed either way.
Don't pick him, and if he turns into a freak like his father, that'll be remembered as the screw up of the generation.
Pick him because of his surname, and if he doesn't turn out half good, then you've got someone clogging your list.
The list managers are probably wishing he played tennis instead.

You'd have to back our recruiters in, they have had a fair bit of success identifying talent in the past several seasons with minimal low draft picks.

Also have a pretty shocking record of keeping the talent here so any lad they take in the 3rd or 4th round of the draft is a bigger risk than taking Jarman.

They could have used pick 82 on a local lad, son of a club legend and if he didn't work out he didn't work out. Now they'll end up using it on a kid from who know where and either way, it's pick 82.

No point comparing Hawthorn to Adelaide in recruiting terms. Adelaide are on the up and look happy with their list, Hawthorn are chasing established mature age players to keep the side up near the top. Hence trading out who they did and trading in who they did. They didn't chase 1st and 2nd round picks, they aren't in the young gun market right now. They aren't looking for 18 year olds. Even more so when Gibson, Hodge, Burgoyne etc all go soon.

No point rolling your eyes mate, Adelaide have a terrible record of keeping their interstate talent. Cripes, even after the year the club had in 2015 the BnF winner still walked away.

Your point about why wouldn't we use pick 82 on him could also be used for Hawthorn who have to use a pick in the 100's. Hawks have to pick up a kid with that pick, has nothing to do with trading or where there list is at, if Hawks thought he was worth it they would have but put a bid for him and found a way like they always do. Wasn't comparing in recruiting terms overall, you were talking about taking Jarman. How do you know we won't trade another local lad we rate higher with pick 82? Have to wait and see.

Not going to argue there are has been some interstate talent leave in the past for a range of reasons but your point about Danger leaving after 8 years of service is a poor example. You should have used Gunston! In the last few years we have kept our interstate talent, every club turns it self around, hell look at where your mob were a few years back

Hawthorn only have picks 83 and 101, so if Adelaide went with pick 82 for Jarman the Hawks couldn't out bid them and take him anyway, moot point.
