Talk on the national game

The difference between Freo and North is that freo cant affect the finals in any way.

Freo are doing it because it doesnt matter if they win this game or not.

North are doing it because they want to lose this game.

We know north wont be coming to Adelaide to play a final, but playing richmond would be better than the bulldogs for them as well.

Pretty clear difference in intent there.

Both situations make a mockery of the competition though.

I think its time for a week off before the end of the season.

In a competition where stadium deals impact the fortunes of particular clubs more than others, there is a particular issue that the AFL have overlooked when allowing North Melbourne to manipulate the make up of the 8, which as a crows board member/executive/fan- Id be disappointed- Financial incentives for home finals. Kochie quoted a figure of $300,000 on sunrise this morning, which the AFC would have received as a result of hosting a final next weekend. Travel factor and home ground advantage isn't the only reward here, as teams that are good enough will win anywhere.

It's a tough issue to police as teams could easily field full strength sides and lose honourably, and nobody will bat an eyelid.

reckon they will cop a hiding in the first final anyway, whoever they play.

Cant say they dont deserve to be there, but they are clearly the worst team in the eight imo.

Reckon the Roos are capable in any given game, they just don't back it up often enough, so consistency is their biggest issue imho.

Which bit do you disagree with? They are the least likely of the teams 5th-8th to do anything significant.

I knew someone would bring that up .. It included St Kilda, Melbourne, Brisbane, Carlton, Essendon and Geelong - 6 wins against bottom 8 clubs after copping a pasting by the Gold Coast.

the Roos I believe are more likely than both Adelaide and the Dogs in September

I rate this comment on Big Footy.

Ah, sweet, delicious opposition tears. I'm a fan of this move on that level alone.

And I love the phrase "bringing the game into disrepute". Sounds so indignant. Almost has a kind of medieval ring to it, like your being accused of witchcraft. (Or running a systematic doping program.)

Speaking of which, if the AFL has permitted it, and it doesn't involve injecting concrete or any other building materials in anyone's arse, then the other clubs can go and dumbstruck themselves.

Of course, we could be in a bit of hot water if WARPA (World Anti-Resting Players Agency) decides to appeal the AFL's decision.

Also knocked off West Coast & Richmond before that & the ladder leaders a fortnight ago.

No fair call, I was just responding to the winning 7 of 8. As Ive said, they're capable of beating anyone on their day, but when they're coming up against the other big boys each week I have doubts over whether they can back it up.

It's all between the ears with North. Their best beats anyone anywhere.
Whilst they find themselves in an Elimination Final again first week, I thought last year they were playing better heading in to the finals (regardless of tonight).

Melbourne media are saying they hope karma hits NM hard. Its called player management.

That's a bit contradictory. It's only Adelaide whingeing, but Melbourne media calling for the Karma bus.

What would people prefer while watching tonights game.

a) The side unchanged from last week, and everyone putting in a half hearted effort trying not to get injured. Probably losing anyway.

Or

b) 9 young kids come in hungry for a spot in the finals, playing to the best of their ability.
