2009 AFL Grand Final St Kilda v Geelong

Talk on the national game

I thought it was a good game - very tight and competitive.
Usually, when my team isn't playing I only half pay attention, but this one held me.
Geelong got that goal that looked to have touched the post, but the Saints got one that looked to be touched after it left the boot - not the one Milburn carried on about.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

How could that not be holding the man ?

One of the worst infringements not to have been paid I have seen in a long time.
St Kilda failed too often in front of goals- Schneider's snap in the first quarter, Milne's many wasted opportunities.
St Kilda could've won it, but they didn't.

Geelong will not be compared to Brisbane until they are gunning for 3 in a row.

Bit surprised Lenny Hayes didn't register a vote. He was outstanding.

In the first quarter he was for sure, but was pretty well held for the rest of the match.

By losing a Grand Final [again] there is 1 consolation
The FAINT Kilda football club can still live on the emotion of that 1 point win, the only Grand Final win in 100+ years for this magnificent club as the sprit of '66 lives on

Why spoil that 1 and only win , probably the most famous and talked about footy game ever

Given the Brownlow can be awarded to multiple recipients and has been for a while now, should the same system apply with the Normy?

Excellent game of footy and neither team really deserved to lose ... I know someone will point to the obvious exception, but barring that we've been pretty spoilt for closeness of contest in the GF's this decade.

Do a practical test
Then do a driving test with a policeman
I did that to get my drivers licence in 1977
I did the practical
We ''JUMP IN MY CAR." and the car wouldnt start
I wuz a raw teenager with little idea about the mechanics of cars
I tried several times to start the car but to noah vail
The sargeant then said
" Boy put on the automatic choke."
I put on my cassette tape and it played

no- the Norm Smith is not the ultimate prize anyway.
Buckley took his off immediately after winning it, I'm sure he has it packed away with his old high school photos etc...

Fair call, just thought I'd throw the question out there, agree it's an insignificant prize by comparison to the trophy.

Good point CP.Simpson Medal in the WAFL GF can, and has had, multiple winners.
1974 & 1981 GF Simpson Medals were shared.

Chapman was a very deserving winner of the Norm Smith Medal. He was the best player on the ground and rightly won the medal. This medal shouldn't be shared nor should the Brownlow or Magarey IMHO.

Well, to be there at the game and witness such an epic contest was not only awesome, but it was also the most stressful 2 hours of my life. When the final siren went, it was such a relief. Had a few St Kilda supporters behind me who said they were glad we won, because they were worried that I was going to blow my stack and have a heart attack if we lost. I still think the best part of the day is singing the song for basically half an hour straight after the match. They play it at least 20 times in a row. It was the best $2,200.00 for two tickets I have ever spent. Worth every cent. And I also had $200.00 on Chapman for the Norm Smith, so I was a very happy camper.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

For all the tactics, game plans, etc. how often does it happen that it basically comes down the team that kicks straight who wins the flag? So many missed opportunities Saints. Goal kicking, a basic core skill of the game yet so often it still decides matches even at the highest level, especially with the pressure of GF day.

Well done Cats, great game, great win (the Cats are gawn are they REB? lol).

Goal kicking is one thing but also using the footy effectively entering your fifty... at one point i heard the inside 50's were almost at a 2:1 ratio in favour of the Saints. in the end correct me if i'm wrong but it was like 1.5 times more for them... in Geelong's credit they used it very well when going forward and defended very bravely, they now have their reward...
