“List clogger haven”: Cornes on Port's links to Stephenson

Kane Cornes didn’t like seeing a Code Sports report that Port Adelaide is looking at former North Melbourne and Collingwood forward Jaidyn Stephenson for their 2026 list.

Stephenson retired from AFL football at the end of 2024 with a year remaining on his Kangaroos deal, with the former Rising Star and 122-gamer falling out of love with the game.

While Stephenson seemed happy with his decision early in 2025, he’s reportedly regained the hunger to play at the top level following a season with Ferntree Gully in Division 3 of the Eastern Football League.

According to the report, Port Adelaide is considering Stephenson for a train-on spot across the pre-season.

Cornes hopes that the club doesn’t look in the 26-year-old’s direction with the Power already adding three experienced options who aren’t stars this off-season in Will Brodie, Corey Durdin and Jacob Wehr.

“From a sporting perspective on the weekend, what was the best thing that you saw? For me, it was that World Series Game 7,” Cornes said on SEN Breakfast.

“The worst, though, was the story I read about Port Adelaide considering Jaidyn Stephenson.

“Now, hopefully, it's just for a train-on spot and they’re not seriously considering him.

“It’s a list clogger haven at Port Adelaide at the moment.

“There’s (Corey) Durdin, we’ve got Will Brodie, we’ve got Jacob Wehr, and I’m just not sure what’s happening there.

“That was the worst thing I saw.”

It’s believed that Stephenson has approached several AFL clubs in recent weeks in a bid to resume an AFL career, including the Power and Blues.
