So Port now enter their 3rd draft in a row without a first round pick, how do Port fans feel about that?

Polec pre-injury was a fantastic trade. Still plenty of time on his side.

Ryder was, at the time, recruited to fill an important need. It hasn't worked as I had hoped thus far, but it will be interesting to see the effect it has on our midfield if he is our number 1 ruckman next season.

Dixon is simply a must have. Without Shaw and Harvey, and with Schulz on the way out- Dixon fits the bill. A genuine forward unlike Ryder, and a beast at that- he will offer the contested marking target we have been crying out desperately for John Butcher to turn into, but hasn't.

We have held our first pick next year, which I am pleased with. Impey (#21 in 2013) and Toumpas this year, along with Wines, Wingard, Hombsch, Clurey, Ah Chee, Gray, Amon headlining a list of U23 talent on our list- we are building a great core of youngsters.

We wouldn't have picked up a quality ruckman and quality key forward with our positioning in the 2014 and 2015 drafts, so both trades were no brainers.

The only complaint from me would have been had we given away our first pick next season.

So is Dixon the puzzle piece that Ryder was said to be?

I can see why they have done it however fear it will bite them.

Also surprised that Dixon has only averaged 9 games per season in his 7 years.

Sydney haven't managed a flag with the best KPF in the competition. I think our biggest downfall this season was losing Polec.

No guarantees, we need to improve by 10-15% across the board to regain our spot in the 8.

What we can guarantee is that Dixon will straighten us up.

Dutchy- All Port fans will hold out hope that Burgo and his team can improve Dixon's durability. Polec is the key to the quality of our F50 delivery. Get him back in the side and delivering to our talls..

would you like to compare Buddy's first year at Sydney to Ryder's first year at port?

Missing the point completely, Wubbsy.

If your mob can't win a flag with Buddy- what gives any Port fan the right to think Dixon will lead us to the dias?

It boils down to the fact that we've used our 2013 pick on Polec ( just turned 23 ), our 2014 pick on Ryder ( 28 in March '16 ) and our 2015 pick on Dixon ( 25 ) meaning none of them are 2-3 year players. We can ( depending on his foot ) expect 8-10 years from Polec, 4-5 from Ryder and 6-8 from Dixon.

If any of them were less than 4 year propositions I wouldn't be so happy with it, but, keep in mind, this is coupled with our total list profile being quite young and the core are set to be long term players with Boak, Ebert, Hartlett, Wines, Wingard, Ah Chee, Amon etc etc all building the core of a solid group for some time to come. Whilst not thrilled by it, time will tell, Toumpas at 21 adds to that group.

Simply, we needed a handful of players with games under their belt more than we needed kids to develop right now. With our 2014 draftees all being big kids ( IIRC 4 of them over 195cm ) we've got some long term big men on the list to take over (in time) from Lobbe, Ryder, Trengove, Carlile and Westhoff and our smaller group are all younger with years ahead of them.

Next year will be important to get some high end talent in the small / midfield department and they'll have some time to develop under the names I've listed above. We aren't screaming for under 23's right now.

I do enjoy your posts about Port Adelaide.

He's currently listed as being 110kg. He won't be at Jupiters lashing down XXXX cans here and I bet he won't be 110kg when season 2016 starts. Can and will make a difference to his body if he can become a lot fitter.
