His contract could be backended (if that is the term?), so it might very well be both.

Just happy to have him at the club still.

Also interesting trade rumour floated to today. Young to Collingwood, Kennedy to Melbourne and Toumpass to Port. Not sure how I feel about this, With Young we know what we get and that's plenty of effort. And with the sub rule removed he would see more game time. But who knows what Toumpass can be if he can get himself right, which is a risk in my opinion.

Wouldn't that be a little dangerous? Who knows what players may become available in the coming seasons or who will demand some extra coin.

I'm unsure as to how it all works and if it can be incorporated into players existing contracts, but clubs are granted a salary cap allowance for players that have completed 10 years of service with the club- meaning Port can pay a percentage of the players wages outside of the salary cap. By 2018-19 we would have Westhoff, Boak, Gray, Lobbe, Carlisle, Trengove, Broadbent and Hartlett all qualify for this allowance. This would surely give us freedom to chase free agents and offer a reasonably competitve salary, whilst following through with any backended contracts in place?

I see clubs are still trying to chase Lobbe - are Port any chance to give in and consider trading??

Ah yes I forgot about the veterans allowance in the Salary cap.. guess that's why these people behind the scenes that pull manipulate these contracts and deals get the big dollars! A lot of thought has to go into it.

It would need to be a very generous offer from another club to give us reason to accept it.

Going to make it much harder to retain some young talent at the club with that deal signed, or do they already know they are going to lose some?

I do enjoy Dutchy's contributions to the Power thread. ;)

Five year extension does seem generous for a bloke that some supporters wanted dropped mid-year.

Generous ? It's downright gobsmacking.

He has a good Manager! .... who obviously now dropped some rumours about Melbourne clubs and pushed up his price/tenure at Port. Very smart play.

Subtle, aren't they? Like sledge hammers. ( No pun intended )

You never know Dutchy, might just be a great place to be around, the whole football world expected us to challenge this year, we didn't, but we just might going forward and the likes of Wines ( our next captain ) and Wingard ( an Adelaide boy ) might just be happy on $550k P.A instead of going elsewhere for $650k P.A.

I do enjoy your contributions though, I never fail to bite, so if it's post numbers you're aiming to build at as an Admin, well played.

Please, enlighten us on the term$?

*Edit*

Perhaps we'll see more and more 4/5 year deal to the guys 24/25 to avoid ever having free agency come into play?

Will be interesting to watch in the coming year or so.

Sweet deal for a bloke with quite a few prior injuries who has never finished in the top 5 of the B&F in 7 years at the club.

Then again is David McKay can get 4 years, then Hartlett does deserve 6!

Tredders now reporting that Richmond have tabled their first rounder for Lobbe.

Geez, I would seriously consider that trade..

Edit- In saying that, it would be dangerous given WADA's challenge against the Essendon verdict..
