400k is only 33% above the average contract these days.

Melksham is pretty ordinary, when it was floated a few weeks ago that Melbourne was offering that ammount I nearly fell off my chair

Yeah i know its not massive money (AFL wise) but i had more of an issue with the 4 year part, and i still think 400k is way overs for Jake

Kruezer re-signed with Carlton for 2 years.

Looks like Dangerfield is prepared to enter the PSD if things are not resolved at the trade table. He will nominate a 1 year deal and probably get taken by Carlton. Interesting, really looking at his options here. Although I'm not sure why because Geelong will come to the table I think. In the end I believe it will be something like there first pick and a player like Horlin-Smith to get the job done.

If you're an SA boy currently playing in Victoria, more specifically at Geelong, with visions of heading home please step forward and put your hand up now!

Even a lad at Collingwood could tell his manager he wants to head home, said manager lets Collingwood know, manager lets Geelong know, all of a sudden wheels in motion for multi club trades and some lad might get to come home who otherwise wouldn't.

Real opportunity for someone out there to make a move back to Adelaide if they wanted to well before being a free/restricted agent.

I still can't fathom why you'd bother drafting kids from interstate.

yep. was really hoping that might be sharenberg but he re-signed

people move interstate all the time for work. no big deal.

29 of the crows list and 30 of the power list are from interstate (at least going by where they were drafted from, i.e Betts was drafted from a victorian team because he was living there at the time)

I'd hazard a guess that the crows and power would not contest finals if they only drafted SA boys; would be severely weakened.

Because they are the best kids in the country??

If you are a very good club you will keep more players than you lose.

We wouldn't have won a flag without Judd, and then when he left we got a coleman medalist and another good player (Masten)

Why wouldn't you draft them

The problem is, when SA boys move to Melbourne they more often don't want to come back. I've heard Gibbs and Cooney speak about being proud to be an SA boy but they would never move out of Melbourne. On the flip side, Adelaide just doesn't offer enough so players seem more likely to head home. I would also put Perth in the same line as Melbourne, more to offer the players regarding lifestyle than Adelaide.

This year we have seen more non-SA boys sign on with the Crows, which is great, so maybe the tide is starting to turn.

Tippett (201) , Pyke (201) , Reid (196) , Franklin (198) , Nankervis (199) , Derickx (204) ,X Richards (196) , T Richards (192) and looking to add 200cm+ Sinclair?

So who is on the way out Wubbsy?

Would have thought one of Nankervis, Pyke, Derikx would make way - none of them have really shown that they can be a match winning ruck at AFL level, even though Pyke has been serviceable

That could make it harder to get to Geelong as he wouldn't be a free agent for Carlton & would either have to be traded by Carlton or go into the following PSD.

Why wouldn't you? It's a risk that they leave after 2 years, or just when they come into their prime and you risk not getting their value. Obviously it's a balance between drafting a kid from the NT or WA (if you're in Vic) and a Vic kid because the interestater could get homesick but I'd prefer, in a 50-50 situation, my team draft local talent over interstaters. We'll see what happens when Cripps (Carlton's version) goes into his next contract. Will he stay or go back to WA?
