Still trying to work out how this is a good deal for Port?

Like others have said, locked in a bloke who genuinely looks like he could be a top 5 footballer in the comp.
Locked him in at a price that 'could' be unders in 5 years' time if he reaches his potential.
Port can now build the squad around him.
Rozee can pretty much guarantee he finishes his career earning approx. 10 million, knowing that so far in advance should mean he can set himself up well in the future.

Obviously, its a lot of 'what if's' and based on potential, but at least Port knows this bloke, they know how he trains, his personality, his work rate etc etc. If ever there was a need for a really long-term contract i think this is one of those situations.

Like others have said I'm sure if they could have Port would have locked Butters into a longer contract as well.

Pretty sure his fiance is part of the Farquhar Kitchen family, they should be ok.

Depends what you determine is long term.
Danger and Neale both had 5 year contracts they extended.
Toby Greene the same with a 6 year deal.
Other players that seem to be doing ok on long term contracts are Petracca, Heeney, Moore, Dawson and Cameron.
Probably a lot more too.

Kicked 51 (58 won the Coleman ),52 (64) and 19 in his last 3 years. Bar his final season he was still going better than ok.

Franklin went ok til the end.
Franklin was a non-entity in 2023, although that was an additional year after the 9-year contract.

Missed half of season 6 and all of season 7 with injury. Kicked 51 goals in 18 games in season 8 and 52 goals in 23 games in season 9 though.

Dusty ticking along quiet nicely too with a year to run on his long term deal.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Still a huge commitment on potential, if clubs are going to be pushed into a corner on these type of deals then the freedom to trade without consent surely isn't far away. If not they need to make 5 years the maximum contract, 5 years is more than fair for the stars of the comp and gives the clubs some room to move if things don't go as planned.

At the risk of being shot down, hopefully now he has the captaincy Connor can get rid of the staging and diving for free kicks. It's crept into his game a lot in the last couple of years, both he and Butters. To be fair its a good tactic, feel the tackle and dive forward and drop the knees to draw the 'in the back' free kick.

If North offered/signed Sheezel 8 years you’d be rapt.

The only consistent thing in the AFL forum is the 153 year old Port Adelaide Football Club creates more discussion than any other club.
