North Melbourne 2015

Talk on the national game

Re: North Melbourne 2015

Nope.

Look at the outs and tell me these guys shouldn't be rested.

Out: N.Dal Santo (Managed Old), J.Waite (ManagedOld), M.Firrito (KneeInjured), A.Swallow (KneeInjured), S.Higgins (KneeInjured), T.Goldstein (ManagedDont want to get injured), S.Wright (KneeInjured), B.Cunnington (KneeInjured), S.Thompson (AnkleInjured & Old)

I bring Adelaide into it, because thats what most people are whinging about. Take Adelaide out of the equation then tell me who gives a f**k. Nobody.

Melbourne media are saying they hope karma hits NM hard. Its called player management.

North are doing the best thing for their finals aspirations in their view

the AFL rules state you must go out and try to win every match.

however given the AFL have allowed their own rules to be broken it really is a case of good on the Roos.

Geelong in 07 rested a number of players in a home match vs Port which they lost in the last few seconds but the rest is history.

I think we have become used to players being rested, but resting virtually half a side is not what most of us would expect.
However, if it was my side, I'd probably blindly defend it as well.

This is true, very true.

@LM, I'm not calling it tanking, not once did I call it that, I'm just amazed the AFL have gone against the very wording of their rule to prevent this happening.

Put it this way HH3, next week, would you rather play Richmond at the G or Adelaide in Adelaide?

Obviously Richmond in Melbourne but the latter was relying on us winning by 100+ or the Bulldogs losing.
Either option HIGHLY unlikely to happen.

These are the INS.

In: J.Tippett, M.Daw, A.Mullett, A.Black, B.McKenzie, M.Wood, T.Dumont, L.McDonald, K.Turner

Most of these guys are rotated through the side during the year anyway.

The AFL should fine NM for picking Black, but other than that, they're not bad.

I rate McDonald and Turner very highly.

Daws in for Goldy.

Tippett for Thompson.

Black for Waite.

Its not a huge deal if you actually look into it.

I reckon we might push Richmond.

I understand North wanting to do this, but what I am pissed off about is that the AFL let them!

The difference between Freo and North is that freo cant affect the finals in any way.

Freo are doing it because it doesnt matter if they win this game or not.

North are doing it because they want to lose this game.

We know north wont be coming to Adelaide to play a final, but playing richmond would be better than the bulldogs for them as well.

Pretty clear difference in intent there.

Both situations make a mockery of the competition though.

I think its time for a week off before the end of the season.

I think the Roos would comfortably beat the Crows here in a final.

But the Roos are guaranteeing their fans a chance to see them in a final at the G

This seems the best solution and may also help with State Leagues as well. They can finish up in the last round of AFL as well and then have their first week of finals free of AFL. Taking out any qualification and tanking problems that we are seeing this year. It also gives them a chance to advertise and get decent crowds.

If we had a reserves comp than perhaps we would understand the players HH3 has mentioned better.

but cos they get hidden away in the VFL if you aren't a north fan you won't bother looking at them. Just like our own team.

If there's a week off before the finals whats to stop clubs still doing it and giving the players a fortnight to freshen up?

I really think far too much is being made of this - At the start of the season all clubs are equal and have the same opportunity to win enough games and afford yourself the luxury of resting some players before finals.

No way should there be a week off before finals.

You have a week off, say you finish top, you play and win then get a week off and go into a prelim with 2 games in 4 weeks? Don't be silly.

McDonald, Turner, Daw, Black, Mullet and Tippett have played a fair bit of AFL footy.

You may have seen Dumont on the news for robbing a taxi driver in Ridgehaven.
