A piece of me is sad that the old Thebby grandstands will make way.
I just hope some of the West Torrens history and great names can somehow be incorporated into the new precinct

Are the club rooms still similar to what they used to be?
Spent many nights down there in the 80s as a kid as my step dad was a mad Eagles supporter.

Need to be able to travel south from from the roundabout, run along behind the houses and come out near the swim centre. Skate park would need relocating if they want sufficient parking for AFLW home games.

Surely they'll get a bar of some sort too (or as I alluded to before get the West Thebby involved)

PS Just discovered West The by wasnt a typo, it's the bloody phones spell check!

I remember about 3 elections ago Sam Dastyari was in town to announce, with Wong & Georganas, the $6m Thebarton development
What a NSW Senator was doing here is anyone's guess (probably got lost)

Anyway, he was on 5AA in the morning and was talking about it. I called in and told him "Mate - you better get the name right or everyone will know you're not a local. Its The Barton" He spent the rest of the interview calling it The Barton. I cant remember who was running the 5AA show but they didn't let him know. Mind you - his 1st question was "What are you doing here in SA" so they probably enjoyed it
Georganas told him he'd been set up at the onsite announcement.
I was standing 6 feet away pi$$ing myself trying not to laugh.

speaking of 5AA, David Penberthy very negative this morning about the Thebarton news, bad location, 'second rate option'. Bemoaned the treatment of the club in relation to the Adelaide Council, Parklands Preservation society, previous Marshall government. Sounded a little entitled it must be said, as if the normal planning rules don't apply to the biggest sporting group in the state.
he and KG will represent a portion of the supported base in near despair at the landing place for the Crows. But in the fullness of time, Thebarton may well be more than adequate for what they need, and all the alternate sites will be forgotton. Probably not a fantastic location in terms of traffic and transport, but it is mainly a training facility and it appears to be a large enough parcel of land.

I've just had a bit of a look at the proposed facility, does indeed look world class.

Thing is, has it been designed for the football program or the football program and the customers? Methinks those who are upset about it know the customers are being left out. No surprise, they've been ignored for 30 years.

Are we sure they're knocking the stands down? I would've thought they could be incorporated into the new set up somehow.

How have they been left out? Because they can't drink alcohol?
