Strong rumour going around that McVeigh will head to a Melbourne based club for a season before retiring and taking up a coaching role.... Bit like what Mitchell did with west coast...

He wants to go around again but Swans aren't keen. We have definitely spoken to him about a coaching role but no idea if playing a year was spoken about. Wouldn't surprise me if we did, Kelly has been fantastic kids and their development so maybe the club would look at something similar

I don't understand why players are doing this. Go to another club to coach sure, but stay a one club player for the sake of one more year playing.
No one gets anything out of it except the player pocketing some superannuation before he coaches

I'd like to see him finish with us... he's playing very good footy at the moment and I think one more season wouldn't hurt... But I get the feeling it's down to freeing up $$$$ for the off season. Not sure how much he'd be on

Agreed. If a club, West Coast and Mitchell for example, wants to secure you as a coach then just do so.

i can think of a few hundred thousand reasons why a player would want to extend their career by a year.

Which makes Lloyd a lock for SuperCoach next year. His scores died in the arse once McVeigh came back.
