One thing I cant understand is why they just didnt take our points and give us the spoon
Wouldn't have anything to do with betting agencies being a major sponsor and now not having to pay up :?

I'm sure that was all Essendons doing. One of their final petty sticking points that made the whole thing drag out as long as it did.

figjam should have been banned until the end of next season and not allowed to attend any AFL game or associate with any AFL player or official ... as per Trigg and Bailey

Would have just been done to clean up everything nice and tidy. They couldnt go to 18th and get pick 37. It would also be to confusing to say you finish 18th but for draft purposes you finished in 7th., so 9th it is.

I do agree with this.
Also had to laugh at the AFL saying Hird cant be paid by Essendon next year, no worries the club will just backpay him in 2015 ;)

Oh we'll. it's all over I feel carp and will now turn off my footy interest until rd1 2014. I will keep a casual interest and barrack for whoever plays Collingwood and Port Power but only as a matter of interest. I really couldn't give a stuff.

Hird offered contract extension despite ban

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-27/h ... -extension

ESSENDON has offered James Hird a contract extension despite being banned from coaching the club for 12 months.

Bombers chairman Paul Little confirmed the club had moved to secure Hird's future by giving him a two or three-year contract extension beyond 2014, when his ban will expire on August 25.

"I don't want to give you precise details tonight because it hasn't been documented yet but there is an undertaking there for James to continue coaching at Essendon once he has served his sentence," Little said on Tuesday night.

I'm sure the AFL realise they are dealing with a club with no integrity, and the human rights lawyers would be knocking on the door if they tried to enforce heavier sanctions.

The draft sanctions will hurt as alot of bombers players will want out now and their contracts will be void if they do

Really?
Would be surprised if more than the usual 4-5 changes happen.
Have heard that Crameri, Bellchambers and Hooker have all told the club tonight they will be signing new contracts in the next day or so

A weak gutless spineless decision by the commissioners. These people should have had the book thrown at them for what they did to their players.
They admitted that they did know what was injected into the players.

AFL YOU ARE PI$$ WEAK

Hird & Corcoran should have been banned for life no ifs or buts about it

Essendon supporters stop living with your heads in the sand and come up and smell the roses.

Some just don't get it. The AFL's hands were tied to a degree. Harsher penalties would have resulted in lengthy court battles. Let's hope ASADA lay some charges now.

So the penalties are not being able to play finals this year (had little chance of winning the flag anyway)
Not having draft picks in the opening 2 rounds of the draft (they still get players just a little later)
Fined 2 million (money the AFL gives them)
James Hird being suspended for 12 months (can still coach in the finals next year)

Are they really penalties or minor setbacks?
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

I agree with you, the NRL relegated Melbourne Storm to bottom of the ladder & this piss weak AFL relegate Essendon to 9th on the ladder.
If this was an interstate team they would of had no hesitation in placing them at the bottom.
