We would spend twice that knowing what it has done for the city and the state.

Build it and they will come.

Difference is $1.3 Billion for 26,000 people and no cricket.

Other than 11 home games what else would they fill it will. International artists are not going there, might jag a soccer international but nothing else.

AO has two tenants, gets used every week of the home & away season, plus you've got the hotel there now too

That was my point

Different situations though.
AO is used every week in footy season and our test matches continue to smash records
The Hobart ground will host about 7-8 AFL games per year and no tests.
Will most likely blow out $$1.2bn and for a state that is broke and predicted to have a $10bn debt in this decade I can see why alarm bells are ringing

The Tasmanian Labor leader has just stated both parties are fully behind it and nothing will change in regards to stadium timeframe regardless of who wins this current election drama

I'd be happy if Eddie McGuire butted out of this debate, too.

They won’t get a team then.
AFL won’t cave in on this

Why is it only a 26000 seated stadium?
Build it and they will come.. 26000 is a disgrace. Needs to be double that to attract other major events and concerts.

They’re going to get 10% of their population to each match? :-??

If that was the going rate, Adelaide Oval needs to be upgraded to hold 150,000

Just on that, if Port was in form and Adelaide who generally draw a crowd, what would be the ideal capacity of Adelaide Oval?

While asking, I do realize that there isn't much more scope to increase capacity without losing the hill, which will never happen.

We’re at the max we should be, any more would be a complete waste of money and never make a return.

Very different set up too, Adelaide metro is dense and central, Hobart is kind of isolated as Tassie is made up of a lot of smaller cities with nothing in between them.

TAS Parliament has called it a day. 19 of the 35 MPs have had 20 mins each to speak to the no confidence motion, so the remaining 16 will continue tomorrow.

You would think that only the leaders of each party would state their case, but here we are.

Nobody wants to sit out in sideways rain and hail when it's -1.
No crowds no devils.
So a 23000 seat stadium with a roof might guarantee a decent return rather than 5000 a week maybe

The 18,000 difference won’t repay the $billion loan anytime soon though

A few big rock concerts could help massively.

Hobart is the second driest capital city in Australia. It’s warmer and drier in winter than Canberra and the AFL plays night games there. Forget that logic.

North Hobart Oval should be rejuvenated similar to Adelaide Oval. Fantastic location (unlike Bellerive) and it also holds significant historical significance to Tasmanian Football.

The SMA had to build a hotel at Adelaide Oval to help keep everything profitable, even concerts here hadn’t done enough.
