Worst early draft pick ever (can't get earlier than number one):

Are some of these Crows supporters complaining about loyalty the same ones that kicked Neil Craig to the curve after 6 years of service???

Its pretty hard in these times to talk about loyalty. Lets look at an example and work out if Phil Davis has done anything that others wouldnt have done.

When the GFC hit, many people got axed. Look at a few consultancy firms around Adelaide. As soon as there profit margin decreased, the trigger was pulled and people who showed loyalty to the company found themselves out in the cold. But have you every left a company for new job, yes I have and the company bitched and moaned about loyalty....hmm seems loyalty only goes one way with this example.

Now back to football. Lets start with say Craig and Bailey. Yep trigger pulled. Gone.
Now the Crows....Jason Torney anyone, seeya later cut. Good example really.
Other players Nick Lower from Port or really any player that was cut loose by a club. They will cut you loose without even thinking about it.

So now Phil, heads of the GWS, Shows no loyalty to the crows. But do football clubs really have any loyalty left. Or is it they are able to make the dollars feel right.

Bit of a rant but it sort of makes my point. Good luck phil, you'll get smashed next year but hey, 750k would be hard not to look at for a 20 year old.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

Yep, this loyalty concept is a farce. Loyalty to a club came about when you supported a club as a kid, played junior footy with them, and worked your way into the seniors. These days you can be an Adelaide supporter one day, a Richmond player the next. I've often been impressed with the way 'most' players embrace their new clubs.

However, the Richmond player could be a Brisbane player in 3 years' time, or even playing in the WAFL. Players are aware of that when they are drafted, so if a better offer comes along, they would be stupid not to consider it.

Loyalty can exist in football, but it is kind to just a few. At Hawthorn we've been lucky to have players such as Hodge, Franklin and Rioli all state they want to play their entire careers with the Hawks. They are settled, happy with the deal they are getting, and not looking elsewhere for opportunities. When players are that good, it is easy for clubs to remain loyal.

However, would they be as loyal to players on the next level? Of course not, and why should they? They have a responsibility to shareholders, sponsors and members to build the best possible list, and if it means players disappearing off the radar, then so be it. Every premiership is a pyrrhic victory of sorts.

I had no problem with a player such as Ablett going to the Gold Coast. He had given the club great service, won a couple of flags, could have played in one or two more had he stayed, but the opportunity was too good to turn down. There hasn't been an Ablett yet who played their entire career at one club.

The problem I have with Davis is he is just cutting his teeth at AFL level and suddenly pulling in the type of dollars normally reserved for top level AFL players. If clubs want to pay that sort of money for what I consider to be a risk, then good luck to them. And good luck to Davis as well, it's not his fault someone is offering that kind of deal.

Footballers can be one injury from retirement at any stage of their careers. may be that they have played 10 games and never play again, or 200 games and never play again due to career ending injury. I dont blame them for chasing the dollars, how can you?
As for Davis, he has loaded himself with pressure to perform for the salary he's apparently getting. Good luck with that young man!
