When Port travel, they take all of their match day staff. Not just head trainer, club doc, physio etc which is understandable, but they take every match day trainer.

As far as I'm aware, they're the only club that does this (not sure about the Crows, but they're not losing money either). When eastern seaboard clubs come to WA, they use local trainers/massage therapists etc. Freo do the same in Melbourne, they have staff based there when the team travels over east rather than pay for flights and accommodation for people that are basically replaceable.

So why are Port different? They could save several thousand right there just doing it the same way other clubs do.

How so Barto? Where do you get this information from? For I know of at least one trainer / property steward who does not go to every game. I nfact he goes to 2 away games per year max.

OK, perhaps not everyone on staff, that wouldn't be possible as I'm sure there are people who are part time but all their away match day positions are filled by people traveling from Adelaide.

Seems wasteful to me as other clubs don't do this. North Melbourne for example had all their on ground trainers sourced from WAFL clubs for free when they were here a few weeks ago.

Trust me on the source.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Fair Dinkum if the Port sack Chocco the SANFL must step in and take over the running of the AFL licence/Franchise. They've just had to take out a 4 Mil loan to keep the Power viable and now the Power want to waste up to a qtr of a Mil getting rid of a bloke they re-appointed less than a year ago.

Same goes with de-listing Chad Cornes with a year to go on his contract.

They simply are not in a position to waste that amount of money.

They made their bed they have to lie in it.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I agree AM - they can't terminate him early and I doubt they would if only for the financial reasons.

It could only happen if Chocco "resigns" .... ie, has some other job to go to .... ie, GWS

Then no need to pay him out

Who's delisting Chad?
In between signatures .....

Speculation going around that given Chads form that he'll be delisted at the end of the year despite the fact he has a year to go on his contract.

Port apologises to league after Williams sacking

PORT ADELAIDE has apologised to the AFL for its handling of Mark Williams' sacking last week after commission chairman Mike Fitzpatrick officially admonished the club.
...

Whether Williams receives employment next season and even if he is appointed as an AFL senior coach, the settlement hastily negotiated by Duncanson without the knowledge of his full board will stick, with the former Port coach earning up to $500,000 for no work at the club.

The fall-out from the Williams sacking has continued, with the coach and his family cancelling scheduled meetings this week to discuss his future and embarking on a hiking holiday in South Australia. He has already received all of the money - minus incentives - due to him for next season which the AFL has placed at close to $500,000 along with remaining earnings for 2010.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

North have an income though, it's up to them how they spend it. If they asked you for money and pissed it against the wall, then act outraged. Forget about the deflection, Mike Fitzpatrick is having a crack at your club, I doubt he cares what North Adelaide are up to either.

Port got a hand out and promptly paid out their coach. If they hadn't done anything wrong, why are they apologising?

The problem for your club is that they've done this without consultation, don't you think it weakens their position should they ask for money again?
It's all the SANFL's fault.
