Could have been handled far better by both parties at the time. Both he and the club could have come out and said exactly what is going on and the next game would be his last

Why should he have to come out and share what would've been a very personal battle? He wasn't even comfortable sharing it with his team mates at the time.

Cancer is a very personal thing. He's free to deal with it however he likes, and if that means not sharing with the rest of South Australia then so be it.

It looks like that bit didn't make the Adelaide Now article but is in today's Tiser:

"After a few rounds, Neil phoned me to talk about the game and I explained that I was really struggling with my energy levels. The coach admitted he had forgotten about my condition".

Fair enough. I don't really think it's a major slight on Craig though. Edwards did play it down a lot by the sounds of it, was even back at training a week after the procedure.

Let me firstly say it would have been a tough time for him, however -

> Not telling his kids?
> Not telling the players why he was retiring mid season?
> His coach forgetting his condition?
> Quitting when he got over 30 possession in his last game?
> Walked away rather than taking on a mentoring role at the AFC/WAFC

Again Im not making light of his battle

He could have told his story before his last game explaining why he was retiring. Then none of this he is dropped and spits the dummy story gets thrown around making him and the Club look like children

Anyone who still questions Tysons integrity, or character should hang their head in shame. For those who have seen people battle cancer, even relative small ones, know just how much the drugs effect the body. His mental toughness in his last few games must have been extraordinary.

I don't blame him. Could you imagine the publicity and the media hounding him if he made it public knowledge at the time?

Great post and damn right, Dogmatic. What a wonderful back (and front) page story this would have been for the Ragvertiser. This should cease all other discussion regarding Edwards. ;)
