Yep, but I don't think Angwin came at the expense of Pavlich, as McGregor and Morgan did

x2

By the time all the lads recruited from this draft retire the one they will talk about the most is Cotchin.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Pick 10 P.Dangerfield vs Pick 13 B.Ebert

Postby White Line Fever » Mon Jul 09, 2012 3:53 pm

Wow great bump

Hindsight is a wonderful tool

Dangerfield is a unique player.
Lethal absolutely loves him - and as I much as I respect ebert for honest performances he never has nor never will be on Rodney's level.

If this isn't obvious you are out of touch with footy.

A few key stats for the year.

Kicks: Dangerfield (217 @ 15.5), Ebert (184 @ 13.1)
H'balls: PD (149 @ 10.6), BE (124 @ 8.9)
Disp: PD (366 @ 26.1), BE (308 @ 22)
Marks: PD (59 @ 4.2), BE (69 @ 4.9)
Tackles: PD (42 @ 3), BE (96 @ 6.9)

Pretty inconclusive stats, one plays in a winning side, one doesn't,

Pav nominated for the 1998 national draft and was passed over by all clubs or all those that had a chance to draft 17 year olds. McGregor went at pick 75 so it seems at face value like every club passed Pav over several times although I don't recall how the 17 year olds could be selected that year.

I recall Pav had a brilliant series in the state carnival post the 1998 draft and by the time of the 1999 draft he had turned into the number 4 pick and was gone before Adelaide had a chance to draft him.

So, yes, we passed him over but so did everyone if it is any consolation. It's not as though Pav was the next 17 year old drafted after McGregor in 1998.

I always felt for McGregor because he kept getting compared to Pavlich yet they were drafted in different years and the obvious was only so in hindsight. Even in 1999 when Pav was in the draft for the second time, Collingwood drafted Josh Fraser and Richmond drafted Fiora before Pav. Even Freo went for Haselby before Pavlich.
