Top 8 rewards mediocrity.
Only 2 teams outside the top 4 have made it further than the second week in the last 13 years.
5th to 8th are wasting their time and ill be proven correct again this year ( and yes that includes the EFC, who I honestly believe will finish 5th unless we lose our points)
My Port mate sent me a message saying "Sorry mate, you're outside the 8 again" and I replied "mate, we're just delaying the inevitable". The final 8 system is a joke. The only thing it does for teams down the bottom end of the 8 is make them get a sniff of what it's like and strive for better next year.
Realistically the premiership will come from Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, Freo, with Ess and Richmond making up the top 6. So why all the hurrah on Friday night with "CARLTON ARE IN THE 8"? Oh, because it's in Ch 7's interest to stir it up. My missus got angry at me for saying "really, I don't care if we make it or not". Because in reality, we're just rewarding ourselves on a terrible season.
Hence I almost fell off my chair when the AFL said (last year I think it was), about making it a final 9!
