Lol u crack me up, so when GAJ slid picked the ball up two hands, gave the handball to the GC player flying past he was trying to avoid the contact of the Sydney bloke who was standing flat footed

We should ban players running around opponents because to me it looks like there trying to avoid contact

Let me guess your a big unit who has no flexibility and agility to get to ground win the ball and give a disposal all in one to two motions

I have plenty of flexibility, I can easily bend over and grab my ankle while keeping my legs straight. I just like to see how contested footy the way the game was invented to be played.

Last year Kommer would've got a free kick when he slid into Spurr's legs, for head high contact. So i'm now "for" the rule.

Yeah must admit I'm starting to come around to it .. There's times I still don't like it, but once the players get used to the nature of it I reckon it could be ok

So why not just play on?
Players have learnt quickly they don't need to go for the ball to get a free.

Cos we don't want guys getting hit in the head and we don't want guys "tunneling". Preferably, you'd want guys on their feet would you not?

Another stuff up with the rule. Luke Hodge slides in gets crunched but takes Harry Obriens legs out yet wins the free.

The comment that was made on here that only fairys slide is now looking stupid considering Hodge and Ablett are two offenders yet probably two of the toughest players in the AFL.

I havent liked the rule from the beginning.

Like i said its not so much this one rule, its the chemistry of all the rule changes together which now mean the best postion when there is a contest on the ground is to be second to the ball and 'sweat of it' which goes against every players instinct in the game.

People arent taught to do full length diving smothers, how many times as a kid did you practise backing into a 4 man pack at full speed, its a part of the game which isnt taught but takes courage, determination and a will to win the football FIRST. imho this part of the game is slowly withering away.

This rule is only going to lead to another rule being inforced when something goes wrong here.

Is this rule being umpired all the way through to amatuer and junior football, its already hard enough to get umpires at any level never making the game almost 'impossible' for umpires due to their being a billion and one different grey areas and sets of rules that need to be learnt as you go through the grades.

the best position on the ground is to get to the ball first and pick it up, always has been as will.

have a look what your reasons are that you dont like it.
1- you are saying that there is going to be another rule change on top of this. can be 100% sure there is, no your just thinking this.
2- every contest when the ball is on the ground a player is going to slide into it. look at the entire NAB cup and the first 2 games and how many times was this new rule paid and compared to how many times there was a contest and the ball was on the ground. majority of the time a player is going to pick the ball up as that what we where taught as kids.

the only players this is going to effect is the fairy's that are too scared to pick the ball up and get hit.

mmmmmmmmmm, kickinit would love to see you tell GAblett and Hodge their fairies to their face!!

Can you honestly watch the Hodge one today and say Hodge was avoiding the contest and acting like a fairy!

Do you consider Hodge to be a 'soft', 'fairy' footballer?

didnt see it so I can't comment on that exact incident. No I dont consider hodge to be a soft footballer, but even the toughest footballer's have soft moments. because they do this a couple times doesn't make them soft all the time. But knowing you, that would be hard for you to understand.

Thankyou 4 thousand posts later you have admitted its not just 'soft' footballers who will be effected by this rule.

Wasnt that hard was it!

If you like the rule thats your prorogative and you can have many reasons to like it but to it but to say only soft footballers would be effected was a blonde moment from yourself.

That's laughable considering it was a textbook example of breaking the sliding rule. An interesting week coming up at the tribunal.

Exactly the rule is a raffle, sometimes it's head high contact the next time it's the sliding rule.

Brad Hardy made an excellent point of his concern of the new rule. He said what is the chances of a bloke sliding in and collecting legs causing injury compared to 2 blokes going hard @ it and clashing heads?

2nd person sliding in I can understand. If they are going to keep the rule I think if a bloke gets the ball first then has forceful contact on his opponent should be play on. For years we want to award the bloke first to the footy and this rule has the potential to make a mockery of things that make our game great....
