If Bassett joins the Crows, would Norwood give Craig another go?

It's obvious that he has a great relationship with the young players, and judging by their reaction to his announcement he has made quite a positive impact on them. I wonder whether perhaps this was part of his downfall in the end, he may have become less of a coach and more of a father figure to these young guys.

Anyway, I see no reason why he could not continue in a mentoring role, but with a focus more on whole life rather than match day footy (ie completely separate from the football department). Dealing with things like, homesickness, balancing life with footy, assisting in further education, and organising charity work to name a few areas.

He strikes me as a person who has an excellent perspective on things, and who would be more than capable of separating himself from the football department to take up another role within the club without interference to a new coaching team.

Agree, depending on the next senior coach... obviously.
Maybe a role like Charlie Walsh

I can't imagine any new coach at any club would actually like to have his predecessor still there, no matter what he says publicly...

Tell me. When was the last time you saw a coach resign, and all the players are celebrating and telling him not to let the door hit him in the arse on his way out? It never happens, but you can guarantee inwardly some would be thinking "Thank God for that".

Players will always say their current coach is great, some will mean it, but they are usually players who haven't played under anyone else.

You can guarantee in 2012 that those players so "grief stricken" by Craig's departure will be saying "Craig Who?" and thinking the new coach is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's all part of the fickle world of football.

Usually a coach steps down because he has lost his players. This did not happen in Craig's case IMO, he stepped down out of his geniune concern for his club. I cannot recall such praise for an outgoing coach, usually the knives are out almost immediately. Gary Ayres, Graham Cornes, Robert Shaw, even Blighty were all savaged to some degree by the players. Perhaps not directly, but definitely by 'rumors' through the local media.

I think Neil Craig is bit of an enigma in what is usually a fickle football world. I think in his individual case it would work.

The thing you will find with other coaches were there was a group of senior players able to speak up for themselves. The current group are kids and not likely to want to rock the boat. I think it's obvious Craig HAS lost the players, but that's just my opinion.

PS Don't believe all you hear at press conferences :)

Likewise I would say to you - don't assume that every situation always plays out the same.

In the end unless any of us are Neil Craig, Steven Trigg, or an Adelaide player then we have no idea how it played out. And when it comes to the crunch, who cares? Neil is gone, and now Adelaide faces a crucial time in it's history.

Decisions made in the next 2 months will have a lasting effect, let's hope the powers that be make the right ones.

Maybe Neil could take a role where he cuts the oranges and pours out the Cordials for the 1/4 & 3/4 time huddles, heck maybe even let him carry the crate out as well?

Ask a Crows player in private and you will get the truth.

Crows were going to lose at least 3 players at the end of the year if he was still coach, now they have a chance of keeping them.
