Talk on the national game

And it's goodnight from him and goodnight from us. I reckon this is our last shot and it will only happen if we bring back Blake and not go in so top heavy. Collingwood outplayed us big time and this year it looks as though we've been worked out. Only one win against the top six sides is a damming statistic. We really need to beat the Bullies next week.

Scarlo looks just about done. Corey can't get right and Otto and Rooke are also close to the end. This time last year I wrote 'we can't win it' but I had forgotten that we had a few to come back. This doesn't seem to be the case this year and we are starting to look like an old team now.

Your obviously disappointed with the loss REB, but's it not over just yet for the Cats, they're still going to make the finals and push hard for the flag. Collingwood did play well but their win means nothing if they don't repeat in the finals, where it really counts.

Don't right Geelong off yet or do so at your peril!

Still a very classy side. Poor old Bartel doesn't look fit why don't they rest him up?

Scarlett is the key here I feel. Geelong are vulnerable against the best sides if he is out.

I repeat my post from July 17.

The two sides last night should be the two that play on the last ever "last saturday in September."

And on that day, I will put all money on the Cat boys...

We have to win two matches to make the Grand Final. Our record against top six sides this season is 1-4.

Cats getting niggling injuries at the wrong time of year. On the other hand, the scum are injury free and therefore getting an armchair ride into September. Carn the cats (we (Carlton) can't get there), so I'm rooting for you guys

I said in this thread at the start of the year that 3 straight Grand Final appearances would take its toll on the cats and believe this is still the case.

Mooney, Scarlett, Ottens, Ling, Milburn all look a step slower, the retirement of Harley means Lonergan has had to play a key defensive role (which i dont believe he is up to). A full season of AFL football (plus finals) also looks like it will be too much for the Pod.

Personally i think it would be great if Geelong could somehow pull this one out. In a era of zones, flooding and heavy "rotations" Geelong have been the most exciting team in to watch in recent seasons and deserve to be remembered alongside Brisbane in having played 4 GFs in a row for 3 premierships. Somehow tho i dont think it will happen.

My concern would be playing Collywobbles in the GF.

Any other side and we've got it in the bag.

Collingwood should have won by 40+ but some poor finishing left that margin much closer.

One thing Geelong rarely get beaten at is the contested ball but Collingwood appear to have added depth to that department with Ball leading the way.

Shapes up as an interesting finals now as the St's wont back away from any of the other top 4 sides and the Bulldogs appear to be just peaking nicely. The Cats look to be, dare I say it, the weak link in the top 4. I haven't written them off mind you and expect a Prelim at least from them but any other the other three sides mentioned above would not be quite so concerned IMO.

Scarlett might not be finished, he just might need to start paying a little more respect to his opponent as for the last 3 years he has had a sound group around him to drop off their opponent and help out. Rooke is looking slow and Milburn is moving up the gorund more and without Harley, Scarlett and Taylor and the only two back there at times.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

1. Geelong has been getting beaten in the contested ball stats all year. We are also well down on the clearance stats also.
2. Rooke has played one match this year.

Am i reading correctly!!!

Geelong are the reigning premiers.
They are currently 2nd on the ladder and WILL have a double chance.
They are the only team in the top 6 that have won a premiership this millenium.

September is a different game lads.

No way would I write them off, even say they are still favourites.
