for sure. will also be the next captain of port i would think

He will, but he'll need to be patient. Boak is not 27 yet with some of his best football ahead of him, 3-4 more years as captain and Wines will be a perfect fit at 24-25 by then.

Was talking 2013 & 2014 only and acknowledged the previous drafting was good.

I wonder if these drafts may hurt in years to come, esp giving up so much for Ryder in 2014.

I think yes Port gave up too much fpr Ryder.

Remains to be seen, will know in a couple of years. With the pick we got from them we took Langdon who is progressing very well and has played a couple of league games already. The kid has the makings of a very good player but wont know for a few years just how good

I think delisting and rookie listing Redden is the way to go, need ready to go back up for Ryder if the WADA decision doesn't go his way

the fact you can do that with a "rookie" is ridiculous to me. I think category A rookies should be integrated into the main list, with only Cat B rookies, those that havent been in the AFL system for the past 2 years, ie basketballers, irish, Johann Wagner, allowed

To be fair to Port wasnt their first pick in the high 50's which would usually suggest they are not as advanced as others in the draft. Would think most of the ones who have played this year are top 40ish picks

Brayshaw, Cockatoo, Duggan, Lever, Garlett, Heeney, Stretch, Daniel, Gregson already making names for themselves.

How many players picked below #50 have debuted in their maiden season?

Better still, how many KPP's picked below #50 have debuted in their maiden season?

With the trade for Ryder, our first pick was Dougal Howard at pick 56.

A quick look and of players taken after Ports #56 pick Clem Smith ( Carlton 178cm ) Jaden McGrath ( Brisbane 180cm ) Harris Andrews ( Brisbane 200cm ) have played an AFL game. Both Carlton and Brisbane clearly getting games into all of their kids. Plenty taken before him have not either.

I'm sure Dutchy will find someway of making it look like a Port failure though.

@Booney @Failed Creation @GWW @Rusty Cage @Carey

If Harley Bennell becomes available at the end of the year- do we target him?

im not any of those dudes, but you would be stupid not to. To think he is the only player in the afl to snort a line or three is ridiculous. He just got caught.

I would bet a ton of money that at least one player on every single team has done recreational drugs in their time on an AFL list

get him out of the Gold Coast environment and into boring old adelaide and im sure he would be fine

No before. Kids you missed due to Ryder deal, time will tell if this benefits or hurts the club long term

The top pick is #1, #1 is not the bottom pick. ;)

Correct.

When speaking in context of an AFL draft, surely you wouldn't interpret pick 2 as being "below" pick 10?

Anyway- my question was answered by Boon. Players picked around Port's first pick, especially a KPP, are very unlikely to debut in their first season.

No, it is taken before so 2 is higher than 10.

I bet you also think that "turning the aircon down" means making it colder :)

I would say yes to Bennell, but not at expense of our first round pick.

It would be a risk, but I would think Hinkley would be qualified to take the gamble if he considered it worth the risk, given the time he spent at Gold Coast pre Port days.
