The only "call" a trainer can make on a head knock like what we saw last night is stay off as they are not qualified to assess if they can come back on. There is no "Yes/no" there is only "no".

Any trainer in any sport making any other call other than to say, "they can not return to the field and need to now go and seek a medical assessment" is operating outside their scope of practise and is leaving themselves and their sports club wide open to legal action.

Mate and if you, as a coach, see a head knock and see a player return to the field especially in an underage category you are in the same liability boat as an official at that club and should make a an appropriate "interchange call".

If you suspect concussion seek medical assessment.

At the SANFL senior level that's easy get the Doctor at the game to medically assess.

At community level where there is no Doctor - remove them from the game and have them medically assessed.

We concussion is about abnormal thoughts behaviours and speech.

The Doctor was assessing Port players, impaired cognition, blurred speech and irrational behaviours are all baseline normal so the actual detection of concussion in that cohort.....
