The point is, stuff like what Port is going through (on the field) is cyclic, even if it's significantly menstrual at the moment. ;)

We've been making history a lot lately Rik. On a weekly basis, no less.

Following the recent thrashings Port have been handed I've heard lots in the media about the club's financial woes and lack of support but very little comment about the team itself and in particular the coaching performance of Matthew Primus.

While the searchlight is trained on the Power's financial plight, Primus' inability to get his players to perform is going undetected.

Primus has inherited a terrible list and needs to given a bit more time I would've thought.

Spuds who have had a crack and/or aren't going to be a good, consistent AFL footballers anymore (Salopek, Surjan, Pettigrew, Carlile, Davenport, Meyer, Motlop x2) are everywhere, and this is left over from the Williams era. He needs to clean these guys out, K Cornes should go as well, and with C Cornes and Brogan retiring, there's 10-12 spots on a list to use via the draft or trade week. Would be a starting point at least, even if the draft is thin.

Some of those blokes have long term contracts which again was left to him from the choco era....salopek i believe has 2 more years and will prob be the highest paid player in the snafl in the next coupla years.

This has been (one of) our biggest problems - we have rarely given up something (someone) of value to improve our list. We should've moved Salopek on 3-4yrs ago when he was worth something. His shoulders are made of poppadoms and has failed to reach the heights that his high draft selection and apparent potential suggested. Danyle Pearce is another one that once held reasonable trade value, but would struggle to command a 2nd round pick right now. Same goes with K.Cornes. If he doesn't go to GWS I'll be stunned..

Truth be known, our recruiting has been ordinary since Alan Stewart jumped ship, not to mention the distinct lack of coaching quality in the coaches box every week.

Compared to our premiership year of 2004 where we had Williams, Bailey, Clarkson, Walsh & Rohde (by memory?) in the box, Primus, Laidley (part-time), Cripps, Hocking & McMillan (WTF is he??). Just doesn't compare at all.

Strap yaself in Port fans. As Brock Lesnar once said.....

Actually Stewart wasn't that great himself. Have a look at some of the drafts where he was our recruiter. We made some very poor selection. Adam Thomson and Ryan Willits were meant to be parting gifts to the PAFC. Then look at blokes like Gilham, Peel etc.

Plenty of duds chosen at all footy clubs. ;) What we wouldn't give to have Gilham (without the dodgy knee) in our back 6 at the moment..?!? :? Or Patfull, Guerra, Farmer & Lower (his 10pt SuperCoach effort on the weekend aside..), for that matter!

Over the years, Stewart was (partly) responsible for bringing to the Club the likes of ; Thurstans, Carr, C.Cornes. N.Stevens, French, Bode, Guerra, Brogan, S.Burgoyne, K.Cornes, Cassisi, Salopek, Ebert, Patfull, Chaplin, Mahoney & Pearce - among others, but not a bad roll call there (7 premiership players - or virtually 1/3rd of the premiership side). 8)

They could start by playing blokes in the right position. Nick Salter is a FORWARD. No matter how much they want him to be a defender, I shook my head when he ran to stand Buddy at one stage. Shocking coaching.

Not sure about that James. IMO he is a shocking defender.

Where does he play at the eagles?

he is a forward. Same with Pettigrew, tried to make a defender out of him when he was dead-eye-dick up forward. Hasn't been the same since.

Salter - Forward, without a doubt.

Pettigrew - Dont agree, has played his best footy for Port in the back half. Haven't seen much of him when playign for Westies, but numbers I've seen he doesn't really tear up the park with them.
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

Yeah there is plenty of duds recruited by all clubs, however I stick by the fact that Stewart was over rated as a recruiter. Ebert is father/son, Salopek was a very early pick who would barely get a pass mark, Guerra was a waste of a pick (returned to Victoria/discipline issues; Nick Stevens - refer Guerra; Patful, well we didn't see much of him, Mahoney, meh wasn't bad for a PSD but nothing special. Chaplin, not doing a lot, been a disappointment. We got Shaun Burgoyne, but he was ultimatley shown to have character issues himself. Pearce was a rookie pick, and that was ok as a rookie pick.

Farmer - I'm not sure if Stewart selected him, regardless I'd rather have Schulz in the side.

I'll give you C Cornes and Cassisi. Geelong picked up equally good players in one draft going back about 10 years now. When we really needed Stewart to make some decent selections, he selected duds such as Thomson and Willits.

Have to agree with MatteeG here. Anyone who has seen Salter play for WW-T will know that he is a natural forward who knows where the sticks are, is creative and capable of freakish marks & goals. Fair enough if you stick a forward down back to learn more about the position, but don't try and make a natural forward into a back-man!

While we're talking about players being played out of position - Brett Ebert!!! The fact that he has been pidgeon-holed as a small forward has seriously damaged & limited his career and the footy club itself.

Sorry Primus, you've inherited a crap list my friend, but you've got to go. It's time for a revamp across the board - in EVERY department!

At least play the bloke in defence when he goes back to WWT, dont watch him kick 6+ for the eags and then play him in the back 6 when he gets a recall.

Primus has done the right thing this year, as horrible as its been to watch by playing the kids.

Where the list is at in 2-3 years time will be the factor deciding whether or not ill call for his head. Give him time port fans, next year will be much of the same.
