2012 broadcast

Postby BIG SEXY » Tue Feb 21, 2012 4:15 pm

just wondering what everyones thoughts are on fox having all the games and free to air only having 4 per round (delayed too i think)
does anyone think it will hurt the game, help it, what will it do

personally i dont think its a good move purely from the sports persective. may line their pockets in the immediate future but i think lots of people will boycott afl and move back to grass roots footy (only cause thats what im goign to do if the coverage is terrible)
aust history has examples of leagues giving their broadcast rights to pay tv only to have the league fall over. NBL and the old A league spring to mind immediately.
i hate the thought of paying a company purely so i can watch a game of footy on TV

I simply won't do it even if none are on free to air.
I object to being forced to subscribe so I'll go back to going to SANFL matches only and read the AFL results on line.
It's not a lot of money but I refuse to pay for a lot of rubbish I don't want just to be able to see the only two matches I'm interested in each week.

I will only watch Geelong games on FTA other than that I am not really caring. I wish Channel 9 would grow the bollocks to take on the AFL in Melbourne and Adelaide and show the League games live.

No one is worse off under this deal then what they had last year. If you choose to spend the $60/70 a month (4 weeks of football x 9 games a week = 36 games/ $70 = less than $2 a game) then you have the privilige of watching every game live. If you live in the eastern states, you get 4 games a week live on free to air. If you live in SA/Wa you get all away games of your local teams live. As far as i know the only rough deal SA audiences wil get is a half hour delay on Friday night, as opposed to the 1 and 1/2 hr delay that was common place over the last 5 years.

This. FTA is a crock of shit. Let's watch Better Homes and Gardens oh goody. My Home would be a lot better if I could crack open a beer and watch the footy thank you very much. You don't have to be rich to afford Foxtel. Even some of the bums in my street have a satellite on the roof and I suspect they get someone in to dress them in the morning.

HDMI Cable from small monitor into big screen.....good!

but personally, having Austar hooked up Thursday, and bloody looking forward to it! all games live, (and i beleive they are also commercial free from siren to siren?) and if i cant catch them live for any reason, record it and watch it whenever i like. i'm by no means rich, i just asked myself this question.....

"it's not a matter of can i afford having Austar, it's more of a case of can i afford to NOT have Austar?" ;)

I used to have Foxtel up until a few months ago and what little AFL I used to watch certainly had ads in it.
